I groaned, quickly flipped onto my side and jumped out of bed. I didn't have time to complain about my screeching alarm, frigid room, sore knee, or my crazily knotted hair. I flipped the tiny switch on the back of my obnoxious clock, kicked my worthless lump of a heater, banged my knee against my music stand, and caught my hair between multiple buttons. I shoved my closet door open, pulling out my mangled backpack, and set aside a decent set of clothes. My mirror seemed to smirk at me, distorting my reflection with smudges and smears. Grimacing, I reluctantly pulled on a pair of blue jeans and a striped white and grey t-shirt. I stormed down the carpeted steps, stuffing my long dark hair into my favorite beanie. I waved down the school bus, slumping into the first available seat. I turned away from the rest of my bus, resting my forehead against the cold window. My deep black eyes began to fill with unnecessary tears, I swiped angrily at my painted cheek, staring at the vibrant colors that glimmered on my fingertips. It was a comfort to see the makeup, almost real. The bus suddenly stopped, flinging my delicate viola into the aisle, the case fell open, revealing a broken bridge and snapped strings. I gaped at the scene, unsure why the case hadn't protected my beloved instrument. I was paralyzed with uncertainty, simply staring at the horror before me. When suddenly, a hand reached forward.
