I woke up in the morning, grabbed my dress which I bought for today. It was a peach colored dress with a golden belt.
I went downstairs and was already daydreaming about how I was going to spend the day with mom and dad, where they both are planning to take me... I remembered last years trip; we went to San Francisco, we took our private cruise on the Pacific Ocean, under the Golden Gate bridge. It was an amazing experience, the wind hitting you in the face. And spending time with my parents on my birthday.
I felt suspicious, because my dad was not on the living room sofa, watching real estates' news on T. V, drinking the coffee that my mom made. I went into the kitchen, but my mom was not there cooking her fab blueberry pancakes. By now my heart was pumping so fast. She was not in the kitchen nor was my dad in the living room. My heart shattered into thousands of pieces. Could they forget my 13th birthday? Did they forget their promise that they made on my fifth birthday when they were fighting for me?
I searched the whole house, each and every corner but I couldn't find them. I went back to my room and started looking for my phone, I found it on my study table buried underneath my books. I switched it on and checked my emails. There was an email from dad and another one from mom. I read father's first it said: " Sorry darling, I had a real big business issue, so I might not be there for your birthday, but you can enjoy it. Go to where ever you want today or just host a big party and invite your friends. From your loving dad and again sorry. Hope you will forgive me."
Then, mom's email: " Sorry honey, I don't think I will be there for your birthday. I'm currently in Switzerland and its raining hard, I'll try to catch a flight, but the flights are all canceled. But check if there's a FedEx, dad and I sent your present, and we hope you like it... Don't feel bad honey; I know You look forward to this day each year. And how are your studies..."
After reading that, I dropped to the ground. Thinking and crying why does it have to be on my thirteenth birthday.
After like an hour or so the door bell rang, I wiped my tears and started downstairs, but it didn't matter how many times I wiped my tears they were trailing my cheeks again, so I gave up. When I reached downstairs and opened the door, I was facing a middle-aged man who looked like he was above 32 and was about five feet tall, who had a muscular complex.
" Hello mam, are you, Samantha..." I cut him off by saying " yes" He looked pleased "ma'am there's a FedEx for you from Mr. and Mrs. Lucas. If you, please sign here " pointing at a spot on a paper. I signed it and collected the box from him, then shut the door on his face. I set the parcel on the table and opened it to find a diamond/ platinum necklace with earrings in it. I was surprised yet disappointed. I just put it in my closet locker, then went into my parent's bedroom on the second floor, sat on their bed and sobbed. That's what I do when I'm upset. There was a message notification on my phone; it was my BFF.

After that, she didn't reply cause she knows me well. I just got up from the bed and was heading out the door but, at the corner of my eyes, I caught a view of a door beside the entrance to the bedroom. I've always wondered about that room; when I was young; less than six years (that's the year when my mom and dad started living apart in their separate houses.) They visited me once or twice a week. Then, it became less and less. When I turned nine, they decided to visit me only once a year on my birthday. But right now I wanted to discover what's in that room, whenever I asked my mom about it or tried to sneak in there she used to drag me out or change the topic. So now I changed my direction to where the room was and opened the door.
