Chapter 3: Betrayal

Bryan and Lynus stared blankly at each other.

Then, they took a quick glance at the fuming face of Zheng Kang.

"This is all your fault!" Zheng Kang roared. "If you hadn't made everyone go on that reckless mission, we would all be perfectly fine!"

"Look," glaring at Zheng Kang eye to eye, Bryan retorted. "If you're not happy, then it's not my problem. If we didn't attack them, they would have attacked us!"

Lynus pulled Bryan away just as he was about to make another nasty comment.

"It was actually our fault for thinking that the same strategy would work twice, especially on a much more formidable enemy. We need to let him calm down first. He has a right to be angry."

No gentle words could calm Zheng Kang down.

He shoved Lynus aside, before pushing Bryan down. "Goofing off instead of taking things seriously... Just like the typical you, Bryan. This is it! I quit!"

Lynus's jaw dropped as he gazed blankly at Zheng Kang walking to his tank. The Wasp drove off in a flash, disappearing from their view.

The other tanks had caught up by now, and several were turning to look at Zheng Kang. Others who were quicker had been listening from a distance, and now someone had made his own decisions too.

"He was right, you know," Tristan said. "If it hadn't been for you, we would still have Ethan here with us. If this is how you're going to treat your teammates, well, then so be it. I don't think I'm going to stay around as I shield you just so you can make it out alive and I don't. I'm leaving."

After the duo drove away, the clan went back into the stronghold. Bryan clutched his fist and punched it against the wall as he peered at the sunset through the window. Then, his head hung down in shame.

Lynus must have seen that, because he sat down next to Bryan and said, "It isn't just your fault, but also mine. Zheng Kang has followed the wrong path, and it is our duty to help him find the right one again!"

Bryan then looked up with a sparkle in his eye, as if he had found enlightenment.

Ethan's body was laid into a coffin and buried in a grave. They would avenge him--- oh yes, all in good time. But for now, they would have to make do with preparing for battles and sharpening their skills.
