It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power- David Brin

Chapter 1

If I told I were a witch you'd probably automatically assume I have a pet cat and rode a broomstick everywhere. You'd also assume I cackled and cast spells of people I hated. That I enjoyed tormenting my local village and that I had green skin and warts. You might think that I dress in black and wear tall, pointy hats. And that my favourite day of the year is Halloween because I can go out and be myself.

But you'd be wrong. I mean... when my mum and dad first told me that I was a witch that was what I first thought. But the more I thought about it the more I realised that it couldn't be right; I'd never seen my parents sneaking off into the night on a broomstick so I figured they were just myths and legends.

They told me when I was 11. Back then I was still a care free kid, I loved going out with my friends and being normal. But then they told me we'd have to move, go and live somewhere else where I'd be a stranger. It was because my dad's immortal. Sucks doesn't it?

Not all witches are immortal, it's one of our so called powers. Sure we live a long time, the average life expectancy is about 150 for us... but not many of us make it to that age. All us witches each have 3 or so individual powers that make us different to the rest of the witches. Some of us like my sister, Skye; can turn invisible. Others like me can see the past and future, you might think its amazing but I think it's just annoying.

I might be stood talking with friends at school, then suddenly I'd blank out and see a vision. It happens at anytime; when I'm awake, or even asleep. It always catches me off guard, usually its stupid pieces of information like the weather tomorrow, or what I will wear tomorrow. I can, if I want go into the future myself, search for things; but it doesn't always work, sometimes the universe just wants to hide information from me. I also can look into the past, I sometimes do it when I touch people or objects. I see peoples pasts and futures when I touch them. I can tell that if they choose to go to one university they will meet their future partner, and another will make them rich. All their choices in life are laid out to me to view. I hate it.

This was the first power that I got, it started when I was 13. My sister and both my parents got their first power when they were 11. They said I was just a late bloomer, I guess I can say the same about my height as I stand at a small 5 foot 1; I'm still waiting for the growth spurt my sister got, somehow I don't think it's coming.

We're meant to get our second power when we're 13. I remember when my sister got hers, she could communicate with technology. For a few weeks the light bulbs in our house would flicker and blow out. The TV would turn on and off and try to greet everyone that walked past it. I found it funny then, my mum nearly lost her patience with my sister but she remembers how hard it was for her.

My second power came when I was 14. I could transform into animals and people, now this power I liked. When I first discovered it I remember turning into my sister to freak her out.

I was sat cross legged in my room staring at my black curls that cascaded over my shoulders, I twisted a lock of it in my hair and watched it practically glow in the light. I stared at my deep blue eyes and then thought of my sisters stormy grey eyes; I had always liked her eyes more than mine. Then the next thing I know my sister is staring back at me in my reflection.
