The walls of the corridors were punctuated with those glowing blue crystals every thirty meters or so. Sometimes the corridor broke off into two branches. Loki memorized their path.
There was one division that caught Loki's attention. Three giants stood guard at the branch to the left. The branch was also not like the rest. This one was closed off by a rather thick stone door. Loki had a hunch about what was inside.
They came to a point where they had to descend a flight of stairs. At the bottom, it opened into another tunnel. This tunnel had lesser blue crystals so it was a little dimmer than the previous tunnels. In this one Loki could make out the shimmering walls of prison cells. Loki was hoping for some kind of shabby dungeon. These cells looked a lot like the ones on Asgard. Loki wondered how the giants could have possibly come by them. These kinds of cells are virtually inescapable. The cells were lined up along the walls of the tunnel. From some of them, hideous sounds resounded. At the mouth of the tunnel, there were two guards. They also held electiric staffs.
"That one had just been made vacant," one of the dungeon guards told the giant behind Loki.
The three giants led Loki to the second cell from the mouth of the tunnel. The one behind him stepped to the side of the cell then pulled something from the small pouch hanging at his hip. He tapped something into it then the shimmering wall of the cell disappeared. The two other giants pushed Loki in with the butts of their weapons. The other one tapped his gadget once again and locked Loki in his cell.
They smirked at him.
"Enjoy your stay," one of them said before they sauntered off together.
Loki massaged his sore wrists. He surveyed his new quarters. It smelled rancid. Like something had died in it. There were stains on the floor. Some looked suspiciously like blood. At one corner of the cell there was a folded up animal fur and at another corner there was a bucket. He walked over to the animal pelt and picked it up. Surprisingly, the animal pelt was actually clean. But it was thin. Nevertheless, Loki rolled it on on the ground and sat on it. He faced the corner. He closed his eyes.
* * * * *
The sound of footsteps brought Loki out from his doze. By the sound of it, there only seemed to be one giant approaching. Loki didn't move. He pretended to still be sleeping. The frost giant banged loudly on his cell.
"Dinner's here!" the giant announced.
Loki heard the shimmering blue wall being turned off for a moment. The giant stepped in and walked over to Loki and dropped a platter behind the 'sleeping' figure. The giant moved to kick Loki but his foot went right through Loki. The bewildered giant stumbled forward into the wall. The figure of Loki disappeared at his feet. Behind him, Loki materialized and took the giant's electric weapon. He activated it and pushed the sparking end into the giant's back before the giant could make a sound. The giant slumped to the floor.
Loki used his power of illusion to make the giant look like him still sleeping. He then took the giant's appearance and stepped out of the cell and locked it up. He twirled the weapon a bit, turned it off and returned it to its sheath.
Some moments ago, the guards at the mouth of the dungeon were replaced by two new frost giants. They were terribly drunk. Loki had heard them when they arrived. The past guards were too hungry and tired to worry if the ones replacing them could do their job so they left without argument. Each of the two were leaning one the sides of the entrance of the dungeons, half-asleep.
One of them woke when Loki came near.
"Did you....?" he started to ask but ended up making punching gestures.
