We all stood here at this small opening. Waiting to be released. This group of nine and I had dug our graves, though we planned to fight our way out of them. There were ten of us, all rebels. Ten rebels, we all had our reasons for fighting against conforming, but we all had, and there was a price for that. One we weren't going to pay.
At least I wasn't, I didn't know about the others, but I wasn't going to die willingly because I tried to protect my friends, family and myself. Today was all about technology. No one saw it coming; we still don't fully understand the control that these gadgets and do-dads have over us. We rebels knew there was something up, something we didn't like and we planned to do something about it.
Late night, I snuck out of my home and ran off. I ran off far west of my little town of Small leaf to the place no one traveled any longer. It was known in our town to be the rebel’s hideout. It was full of dangerous terrain, the one place the government hadn't touched, couldn't touch. It was the Phantom Planes. As a child the 'Phantom Planes' struck fear in my heart. There were bed time stories, all warning us to stay away from there, but as I grew older I slowly learnt that the bed time stories were just our parents ways of protecting us from the worlds troubles, telling us to not become a rebel. After I got over the initial fear of the place implanted into my head by my parents, I studied it. I delved into the rich history and information of the Phantom Planes. At sixteen after secretly learning everything I could about the Phantom Planes, I snuck out into the night.
I had been a rebel two years before we took our well thought out plan into play. We put the evidence of foul play that we had compiled into a video, put the video on to a flash drive, and then late one night we snuck into the governments television broadcasting center. We replaced their nine am show with our production, with no self destruct button. Without realizing it the next day the government played a program that showed all their viewers of their wrong doing. We missed one thing, the flash drive; one of us had left it on the desk. They traced it back to us and here we stood.
"This isn't a game people. It's a fight to live. You get caught you die. You all put yourselves in this hole. You are the only ones capable of crawling back out. The only things you have are your skills. Your survival skills. This is survival of the fittest, and the weak die. The weak die because they don't deserve to live. Prove to us you deserve to live, and we'll let you go. It won't be easy, I'll be surprised if one of you makes it half way, but if you do, you stay alive," broadcasted the unseen voice.
I am Dakota Black. A young rebel. I am Dakota Black, daughter to Chase and Myranda Black. I won't die because I tried to save those I love, I am my father’s daughter.
I clenched my eyes close, and the hand gripped on mine. The hand of little five year old, young rebel Fawn. Yes five years old and a rebel. They had made her parentless, so she fought; now they expect her to endure these trials as an adult would. I slightly shielded her behind me. Waiting for the signal, the signal to go.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.

The horn blared loudly, signalling us to start. I threw Fawn on my back, her little arms wound tightly around me, as I opened the hatch; I knew I'd be the last to go through. I watched all eight of my comrade’s slide down the ladder that led into the beginning of our end. Once the last had been through, I slid easily down, careful not to hurt Fawn. My feet landed on soft earth. I glanced around. We were in a room, underground with two tunnels. In the corner were ten packs. There the group waited to decide our game plan. They all looked at me as if it was my choice what to do.
"What?" I asked with a shrug.
"What are we doing?" One of the men asked, Jesse I think it was.
"How the hell am I supposed to know?" I replied starkly.
"You’re the leader." he said easily.
I glared at him but I knew he was right. I turned to the second youngest, Madison, then to our strongest, Blaze. I bit my lip. "Well obviously these packs are our supplies, seeing as Fawn is on my back, she can’t carry hers, we divide hers among rest of our packs," I kneeled down to eleven year old Madison, "Can you take your pack sweetie?" I asked.
She nodded determined, fire in her green eyes, "Mhm."
"Good," I nodded.
I stood up to the rest. "Alright divide one of the packs between the others, these are not our personal supplies these are every body’s supplies."
As everyone started on that I pulled Fawn off my back and set her carefully on the ground, I tightly gripped her hand. Blaze started passing the packs around the room, once I saw that every one had one I turned to Blaze, the second in command. "Alright, here's what we're doing. We're not splitting up but were dividing into two smaller groups. Split up between Blaze and I. Blaze your taking Madison, Jesse, Crawly, and Faith. I am taking Fawn, Tensie, June, and Seth."
They all nodded. "Were taking the tunnel on the right." we all lined up in our two groups me at the back. I watched as the all slid down what appeared to be a really steep slide that went on forever. I gulped when it was Fawn's and I's turn to go down. I lifted her up easily and positioned her on my knee as I stood in front of the slide. I gripped my eyes shut as I prepared to slide into the endless darkness.
