Nerves

Kei Tsukishima

Tsukishima Kei was never sick, other than having a house cold every few years, nothing.
When his heart would start beat erratically, he'd brush it off,
"Nerves."
He'd say.
When he ended up fainting during class, and waking up in the nurses office, he brushed it off,
"Nerves."
He'd say.
It was when he had a seizure at home while hanging out with Yamaguchi he'd been sent to the hospital.

The Karasuno volleyball team would visit, every once in a while, they'd change the flowers that would go un-smelled and would re-flood the blond's bedside table with cards that would go unread.

Hinata would visit.
Orange lilies in hand, a card in the other, he'd sit in the chair placed near Kei's bed and just, talk.
He knew Kei couldn't hear him, but he also knew that when he got back to the club, Kei wouldn't be allowed to say anything about not keeping him on track.

Beep beep beep

Kageyama would visit.
Kageyama would walk around, smell the flowers the others had left, he'd clean the small white room, then he'd take the cards and read them to Kei.
Kageyama would speak in a clear smooth voice, he'd read the heartfelt words those who'd visited him had wrote on a small piece of folded paper.

Beep beep beep

Tanaka and Noya would visit.
They'd be semi loud, passing nurses would shush them, telling them to be quiet.
They'd bring a random assortment of flowers, unsure of which Kei would prefer.
The two would end up talking among themselves, their words finding no real topic to focus on.
After biding a goodbye, they'd leave.

Beep beep beep

The third years would visit.
For them it was very disturbing, the usually salty and sarcastic Tsukishima Kei just didn't look like himself when laid on a hospital bed.
Many cards would be brought, not only theirs, but a mixtures of those would hadn't yet been able to visit, same went for the flowers, they'd enter with a huge assortment of different flowers, this caused the three to buy a new vase.
Suga would readjust Kei's blankets,
Daichi would talk about the passing week,
And Asahi would be on standby, he'd usually add onto Daichi's stories when the captain would forget to mention something.

Beep beep beep

The second years would visit.
Theirs visits were awkwardly quiet,
No words were shared between them.
They'd just hang around, sometimes on their phones, other times just lazing around.
They'd chuckle to themselves, still in doubt of what happened, where they were, why they were there.
They'd leave without a word.

Beep

Then,

Beep

Yamaguchi would visit.
Cards were brought, not only his, but Kei's family' as well, Kei's family hadn't visited him once, therefore they left their gifts for Yamaguchi to bring.
The freckled boy would set the cards and gifts down, alongside the vase of flowers in which he'd also add some foliage of his own.
Cherry blossom branches.
Kei's favourite.
Yamaguchi would sit beside Kei's bed and play with the boy's glasses, the glasses he hadn't worn in a while.
Yamaguchi would then finger comb Kei's growing hair, his bangs that had once reached the middle of his forehead, now reached his nose.
He'd usually stay quiet, he'd stare at his friend's face,
Waiting,
He'd always wait for Kei to wake up,
He'd wait for Kei to wake up, put on his glasses and look to Yamaguchi and click his tongue.
When the boy would talk, he'd talk about how sorry he was for not noticing Kei's irregular behaviour, he'd tell Kei just how much he loved him, told him he'd get better and that he'd be there to help him.

But this time.
There was no staring at closed eyes, to having to brush hair away from Kei's face.
When Yamaguchi had entered the hospital room,
Kei was sat upright in his bed, he had put his glasses on and was staring aimlessly out the room's window.
A gasp leaving Yamaguchi's mouth caught Kei's attention.
The blond turned to him and smiled,
"Sorry,"
He said,
"Must've been my nerves."

IRD - Inherited Rhythm Disorders :
People who have IRDs experience irregular heartbeats, when properly diagnosed IRDs can be managed through treatment and medication.

However..

IRDs can lead to fainting and seizures.
IRDs may also lead to SADS - Sudden Arrythmia Death Syndrome in people of all ages, including children to young adults who were otherwise healthy, having no medical history of a heart condition.

A/N : a little tidbit, when I first started writing this, Yamaguchi was going give himself up for Tsuki, where at some point Tsuki would go,
"Sorry Tadashi."
And be all sad. Also to sort of add onto the "sadness" of this one shot, search up Yamaguchi on google or something and look at like an anime wiki page and compare some of the things you find to Tsuki's medical card thing at the end of this one shot.
