9. Progress
Kara
I woke drenched in sweat. This was the third night that I had dreamt about Talon De Luca. It doesn't help that I spend at least three hours a day in his presence. It also doesn't help that he looks delicious, almost edible in those damn suits. I wanted to tear them from his body every day. What the hell was wrong with me?
I had told myself I wasn't going to think about him anymore. I didn't want to be the one responsible for ruining his life. He'd made his choice and I'd just have to live with it. He chose that woman and I'd have to just forget about him and live my life. Maybe I'd find a nice guy to settle down with.
The only problem wrong with all this is that my body wouldn't stop reminding me of him. I ached between my legs, and it wasn't just any ache. I ached for him. I wanted to feel him between my legs.
So do it.
That voice in my head was back.
It's just one night. No one would know.
I banished such thoughts from my head and got prepared for the day. When I got to work Talon was already behind his desk with his head buried in another folder. He'd finally finished the first one. I stood by the door taking him in. He looked so much more different in that seat than his brother. He seemed more demanding. It's almost like that seat fit him. If I really think about it, it did. It was made for him. That's his place. That's where he is meant to be.
And you're meant to be by his side.
Once again that voice in my head showed up. I ignored it.
"Have you eaten?"
"I didn't have time," he responded without looking up from the folder.
I placed his usual on his desk.
"Do you want me to make you a cup of tea?"
He looked up then. "If it's not too much trouble."
I wasn't his secretary or anything but I enjoyed doing this small thing for him. It made me feel like I meant something to him.
I placed the tea in front of him and he made no attempt to take it. If I left him it would stay there until I returned untouched. So I walked around the desk to stand beside him. He paused what he was doing alarmed by my presence. He even seemed incapable of speech at one point.
"You should eat now."
I reached across him and closed the folder gently. He still didn't say anything but his eyes followed me.
"What?"
"Your hair is down today."
"I didn't have time to put it up."
"I'm glad. You should leave it down more often."
"And you should eat breakfast on time."
"If I do that then I can't look forward to your surprises every day."
I wouldn't really call them surprises. I just try to not bring him the same thing every day.
"Is that so?" I wanted to smile but held back.
"It's okay to express happiness in front of me, Kara. I'm not going to snatch it away."
I wanted to believe him but we both know my happiness had been taken away the minute he married that woman. Although it wasn't guaranteed that we would have been happy but at least then there was a chance. Now there was none.
