Reid’s POV

I tap my fingers on my mahogany desk, waiting for Dad to come home. He never lets me out of our tiny apartment. I could leave if I wanted to, run away and never come back, get away from my prison as I sometimes call it. I would do it the only problem is that I have nowhere else to go.

I've been here as long as I can remember, sometimes, I get these weird flashback like things, where I see a  lady and I'm looking up at her. I don't know who the lady is. But one day when I'm eighteen, I plan on finding out.

I look at the clock and sigh, it reads 8:30 p.m., Whoopee doo Dad’s not coming home until late, and I have no desire to make food. I get out of my desk chair to grab my cell phone. It was of the few luxuries my father provided me. I thought about what I wanted to order.

I finally decided to get some Mexican food.

The phone rang 5 times before someone picked up

"Hello, Mexican Express what would you like to order?" The boy on the phone asked.

"Hi, may I please have a number 5 combo, for my drink I'll have, hmm, what's the most carbonated drink you have?" I asked.

I wasn’t usually allowed to have carbonated drinks but I was bored so hey why not!

"That would be a Coke" The boy replied.

"I'll have that, please." I said.

"Where should I deliver your food?"

"Are you going to deliver it?"

"Yes Sir."

"Okay. I live at Gothel apartments on 3rd street, apartment 7A. Tell the door man you're delivering for Reid Waters and he'll let you up got it?" I ask.

"Yes I do Mr. Waters; I'll see you in ten minutes with your food."

I look down at my black hoody and red t-shirt with jeans. Yep I’m good.

10 minutes later I heard the familiar sound of our George, our doorman's voice through the intercom.

"Reid, did you order food, without asking your Dad?" He asked.

George was our overprotective doorman, at least to me. Whenever someone as coming to our apartment when my father wasn’t home he always asked about them, to make sure I wouldn’t get well captured.

"Yeah, I was hungry and you know how my dad gets.”

“Just checking Reid.” he replied.

20 seconds later I heard a sharp knock at the door.

“Here’s your food. You owe me $14.99” He said.

“Right. I’ll grab that for you.” I say walking over to the kitchen to grab $15 dollars. “Here you go, keep the change.” I say grabbing the food and sitting down.

I eat silently, wishing that I had a normal family, with a sibling a caring mom, and a not drunkard dad that my father is.

Later in the night after my taco was done and it was now 1:00 a.m.  And my completely wasted father came stumbling through the door and told me to go sleep in the barn.

“Dad we don’t have a barn” I say gently.

“Just go sleep in your bed you idiotic boy.” He snaps.

“Yes father.” I say getting up and walking to my room.

Why can’t I have a normal family?
