The movie 3 Idiots is a 2009 Bollywood film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is about 2 old friends Farhan(Madhavan) and Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) searching their long lost college companion “Rancho”(Aamir Khan) while reminiscing on their college days and memories of their ingenious friend “Rancho” who taught and inspired them to think differently. This is a kind of movie that people of all ages can enjoy because it leaves you spellbound for hours after it has ended because of the sheer impact of the values and lessons it will teach you not only about college but about life.
The movie starts off with Farhan and Raju and another old college companion Chatur 'Silencer' Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya) trying to find their long lost college friend Rancho. While they are on their way to meet him they recall all the wonderful times they’ve had with him. Rancho was the rebel among them who was always questioning things and believing that learning is more than just the usual mode of education. He always got them into trouble with the college director Viru Sahasrabuddhe (Boman Irani) and even almost got them all expelled. During their years in college they had a lot of misadventures which was all depicted in flashbacks as they go across the country to look for him. But Rancho's greatest contribution lies in making his friends realize their true calling. The twist comes when on Graduation Day. After being awarded the Student Of The Year title, Rancho mysteriously disappears into oblivion. 10 years later, Farhan and Raju, finding a common thread, embark on a journey to find their friend.
There is one thing that I personally didn’t like but can be debated is that there were song numbers that were a bit too dragging and repetitive but then again whats Bollywood without a little bit of musicals.
3 Idiots is wonderful masterpiece carefully created by Hirani. It is a heartwarming story about love, friendship, hope, dreams, and most importantly the beauty of life. This movie was extremely difficult to make because it switches to flashback mode quite often but not once did it lose its momentum. The fact that it is a long movie it brings forth a medley of emotions and memories to its viewers which is one of the things that makes it such a masterpiece. The acting was good enough to set the mood. You can tell that the speech and dialogue was well thought out because it was snappy and funny which is what made the movie funny. People of all ages would love the film because even if you are old or a kid you can still pick up some valuable lessons in life. I would give this movie a 4.5 out of 5. If you like humor, love, adventure, music, and want to be blown away then this is definitely a movie for you.
