Everything was quiet, not a sound to be heard. I couldn't hear the birds chirping nor the rain pattering on the forest floor. It was dead silent, I just knew that I should be running. Chastening myself silently, to stop being stupid. The first taste of freedom I've had in so long and I spent it admiring this enthralling forest. I could see everything so clearly, it was so peaceful here. I could imagine staying here for eternity. Every single feature this forest had offered calmed me down, almost completely. No matter what transpired, I felt like I would be safe without having to worry myself sick. That's not possible though, I can't stay this close to the house. They'll find me and that can't happen. It just can't!
I suddenly heard a branch break. My posture immediately stiffened. I knew who was there, and my body was prepared for a fight-or-flight reaction. I never fought for anything in my life and I couldn't. If I did, I would be severely punished. Therefore, my basic instinct won out. I started running; running as the trees passed me in blurs. All I could see was the spots of brown and green, until I couldn't hear the wind rushing past my ear and the sound of the water trickling from the nearby stream. Running at a high velocity until my lungs would burn; until I had trouble breathing. I knew that if I hadn't, they would take the air I longed to breathe away from me. Sprinting wherever my feet would take me. Wherever I would find a path. Trying to escape it, I couldn't be caught; wouldn't let myself be caught. My entire existence would be pointless if I had been detained. There would be no point of my very being. Everything would be lost, like a leaf spiraling down a tree. I would never be free.
