I sighed and took a huge bite out of my sandwich. Royal was being a pain. I looked over at Basil who was nervously eating her sandwich and watching Joslyn carefully peel the cucumbers off her sandwich.
"I don't like cucumbers." Joslyn proclaimed once she had finished.
"I know you don't." Said Royal, she sounded more exasperated than usual. Maybe it was because I had made a new friend without consulting her first.
Basil simply munched away on her sandwich and curiously looked Royal over. I couldn't blame her, I loved looking at Royal's face; her emotions were shown very plainly there at all times. Clever golden eyes scanned every available surface and waist-length brown hair sparkled as the sunlight hit it. She was very pretty.
Basil turned her attention to Joslyn's eyes. Joslyn caught her looking and smiled, which made her mismatched eyes shine even brighter.
"So, Viddy." Royal said, turning to me. "I was wondering if we could, after lunch, go out shopping."
"With Joslyn and Basil of course."
"Oh, yes I suppose." She sounded as if she would much rather go with just me. Probably so that she could take all my money.
"And his royal majesty Buck." I said.
Joslyn laughed. "Shopping? The two of you and Buck? I'm in."
Royal rolled her eyes and turned to Basil. "How about you?"
Basil's green eyes grew huge. "Uh, yeah. Sure." She whispered quietly. "Sounds good."
"I'll go get Buck then." I chirped out running out the door.
I practically flew down the stairs to the rooms. "I need His Royal Majesty Buck." I told the guard standing there.
He smiled. "Would like to get him yourself?" He asked.
"Um, no. Could you get him for me?" I asked. I didn't really feel like fetching Buck because he would argue with me and say that he hated Royal, which he did, but he wouldn't say that to a guard.
Buck came out into the hallway. "Where's everyone else?" He asked.
"Upstairs," I told him. "Let's go get them. I can carry you." I lifted him up in my arms, I was pretty strong for nine years old, and ran back upstairs.
"Okay," I told the others when I got back up there. "Let's go." I turned back around and ran back down the stairs, Buck still in my arms.
I could their footsteps coming down the stairs and Royal's voice asking: "Does she have to bring him?"
"Oh, Royal. You know she loves him." Was Joslyn's reply.
I put Buck down on the ground. "We're gonna go shopping!" I told him.
"I know," he replied. "Why else would you want me?" He looked around. "Are we taking a carriage?"
"Um, yeah! That's a great idea. Basil has never been in a carriage." I looked around and my snapped my fingers for a carriage. One soon arrived. Royal and I were treated like princesses here. And Buck was treated like a prince. Well, he was a prince, of the most dignified blood.
I put Buck in the carriage. "Should I have called a gig instead?" I asked him, I took his opinion very seriously.
"No," he responded. "She wouldn't have thought very highly of you then."
Right on que the three of them came around the corner. Royal was silent, for once, Joslyn was smiling a bit crazily. What would expect from people who climbed up twelve foot high toy closets? Basil was looking at the carriage with wide eyes.
Royal brightened up when she saw the carriage. "Oh, yes! I love the carriage." She climbed in and sat as far away from Buck as she could.
Basil sat in the seat across from Royal and eyed Buck curiously, she was very quiet.
"I like her better than Royal." Buck said indicating Basil. I nodded and sat down beside of him. Once I was in Joslyn came in and shut the door behind her then she sat down next to Basil.
Royal turned and called out the coachman: "Take us to the shops then." We started off.
