Let me tell you, a six hour flight from New York to San Francisco was not fun. My back ached from doing absolutely nothing, all I did was listen to music and read my book the whole time. And just to add to it, a baby cried for about half the flight. That did keep my mind off of what was coming though. What do I say? How do I act around my new family? Where do they live? Do they have children already? Who are they? I never asked Ms Richards and she never told me so I have no idea what I'm getting myself into.
Soon we were landing and when we got off, just like I expected, it was really hot. Though not unbearable, it was okay, in my opinion.
When I walk out into arrivals I quickly scanned the room for McGregor. I didn't see it at first and I started to panic, but then I saw someone with a sign with McGregor on it and I walked up to him. Now I know why I couldn't see him before. He was tiny, he just came to my shoulders, and I wasn't a giant either. He was probably in his fifties and had greying hair that was the curliest mop of hair I've ever seen. Honestly, he could have anything hiding in there.
"Hello, are you waiting for Harriet McGregor, cause if you are ... that's me"
"Ah, good come on lets go get your bags" And that was it, he didn't even tell me his name.
"So what's your name?" I decided to ask, as I presumed that this was my new father.
"Tom, and I'm not your dad, I'm just here to pick you up" Oh, so they had money if they could employ someone to pick me up and how did he know what I was thinking! Or had I said it aloud?
We got my bags and guitar case, which seemed unharmed and walked out of the airport and into the blinding light of the sun. We walked to some massive black SUV, I'm not good with identifying cars so I had no idea what type it was, only that it was huge. We got the bags in the back and I climbed into the passengers side with my guitar case on my knees.
The drive took about half an hour. We then turned on to a street, which let me tell you, was really nice. The houses were massive, they had immaculate front gardens and they had pools which captured my attention as my eyes kept catching the suns rays when it reflected off the water.
We continued on for about ten houses when we stopped in front of one, which is where I presumed I was going to be living. Nice. Tom got out and started to unload my bags. I got my guitar and jumped out. My hands had gone sweaty, my knees where shaking and my teeth were chattering. I was so nervous.
"Come on, don't keep them waiting" Good coming from him, he wasn't being adopted by complete strangers. I caught up with him and he turned and knocked on the door

Today was the day, Harriet was coming today. I couldn't stop moving, I had been up at the crack of dawn and had tried playing my guitar, watching the TV, talking to Adrienne, playing with the boys, nothing was working. Calm down Billie Joe. Also the fact that we hadn't gone to collect her ourselves wasn't helping, but we had decided that we would send Tom to get her because as soon as we reached the airport it would be photos and autographs. So to make it less stressful for Harriet we sent Tom.
They would be back any moment. What do I say to her? Would she know who I was? So many questions, to many questions, no one to answer them.
"Would you calm down, your working yourself into a frenzy" Said Adie. She was trying to hide the fact that she was laughing at me, but she wasn't doing a very good job. How did she not look nervous?
Then there it was the knock on the door. Adie and I shared a glance and she went to answer the door, I followed close behind. This was it, the moment we had been waiting for, she was finally here. My heart was in my throat. Here it goes. Adrienne opened the door, and there was Tom and standing further behind was Harriet. She was smaller then I expected, though it made me feel better, knowing she wasn't taller than me. Her hair was dyed in a mix of orange, yellow and white, for some reason it reminded me of fire. Her eyes were emerald green and she had a light sprinkling of freckles.
It was Adrienne who spoke first. "Hello Harriet, I'm Adrienne and this is my husband Billie Joe. It wonderful to finally meet you"
"It's nice to meet you too" stuttered Harriet. She was looking at me with wide eyes, so I guessed she knew who I was.
Tom then started to lift one of the bags inside. I grabbed the other one and Adrienne told Harriet to come inside and make herself at home. I then realised she had a guitar case with her, I'll need to ask her to play something, I thought to myself.
We left Harriet's stuff in the hall and we went through to the living room, where the boys where sitting playing the PlayStation.
"Harriet, meet your new brothers" I told her. "This is Joey and that's Jakob"
"Hey" Said the boys.
"Hi, nice to meet you"
Harriet looked tired, and I guess she would have been as she had travelled all day.
"Hey, let me show you to your room, so you can get some sleep and you can get all settled tomorrow."
I picked up one of her bags and she picked up the other one. I took her up stairs and down the hall, past the boys rooms and then opened her door for her.
"So this is your room, I'll let you get settled in. Night."
