This was going to be a one shot, but then word 3,200 came and I decided I'd split this into a few parts. (+ this is dedicated to the lovely rushoflove because the quote in my description came from her, and that's generally where I got the idea for this mess.)
Louis Tomlinson has a... gift, you could say. This gift is somewhat horrible. It leaves him with splitting headaches and tears and damn near impossible journeys. He doesn't know why it happens or when it began to happen, as it seems like he's had it for as long as his memories went back. He hates it, really, but at the same time, he's glad he has it.
Louis' always wanted to be some sort of hero, and he thinks maybe that's why he has this "gift." He's always wanted to save people's lives, especially lives of those who hurt themselves. That's what he does. He didn't chose to do it, and he hates it sometimes, but he's glad he does.
Today, it was a boy named Ricky. Louis' little "gift," kicked in around ten o'clock- a few hours after he'd woken up. Louis' learned not to scream when it happens. He clenched his teeth and pressed his hands over his ears like that would reduce the pain. He closed his eyes shut tight and stopped breathing for a little while.
Louis saw a boy working in some restaurant. He had a name-tag that said Ricky, and he was serving a couple, a girl with brown hair and a boy with blonde hair. He set a bagel in front of them both, and they each picked up one half and began to eat. The man, Ricky, sighed as he saw them kiss and walked away sadly.
That was it. Louis's eyesight went to black, because his eyelids were blocking out the scene around him. He pulled his hands off his ears and opened his eyes, letting himself breathe again. He had some information running through his mind, now, which would be completely alien to someone who wasn't Louis: Georgia, America. 12:00 A.M. on February 1st, 2014. The edge of a lake by Ricky George's house- then there was an address. Louis wrote everything down before it left his mind.
Louis scanned the information again and again. He was currently in Utah, which was miles away from Georgia. Louis grabbed his phone and took a quick look at the date. It was January 28th, 12 P.M., which means he had exactly three and a half days to get to Georgia. How could he possibly get there that fast?
"Harry," Louis said out loud. Since he already had his phone in his hand, he called Harry, tapping his foot impatiently. Harry always, always picked up the phone, but he was taking an extremely long time.
"Let me guess," Harry said almost as soon as he answered the call. "We have to go on another impossible drive to another impossibly weird place."
"Georgia," Louis confirmed, spinning his pen in his hand. He looked back down at his sloppy hand-writing. 12:00 A.M. He wouldn't be getting any sleep for the next few days.
"Of course." Harry muttered, but he didn't sound annoyed. Harry paused for a moment, and Louis guessed he was looking at the day, too. "Alright, well, I've got about five-hundred in the account. When do we have to be there by?"
"We're not stopping at any hotels, that's for sure." Louis said. He sighed. "We might have to run a few red lights, speed the wrong way down some one-way roads. We're going to have to take every single high-way we can. And, um, we have to be there on your birthday."
"Damn," Harry muttered. Louis could imagine him rubbing his eyes with his free hand, trying to rid himself of some stress. Louis didn't blame him. Things like this were extremely stressful- when Louis and Harry had only a few days to drive too many miles to count to save someone's life. And if they were even a second late, that person would be gone- that person's death on their shoulders. It was almost too much.
"Alright," Harry said after a minute. "I'm off work in about an hour. I'll come pick you up- get a bag packed and don't forget to pack extra for me this time, okay? I don't have any time to go home and pack a bag for myself."
