i trudged through the thick snow, walking slowly behind my large family. everyone chatted amongst themselves, but left me out of the conversations. the feeling of loneliness was unsettling. i missed my cousins, the only people who would properly interact with me. but unfortunately they had to leave early. they told me that i was lucky that i was able to stay in paradise for another day.

little did they know, being stuck in a snowy terrain with 5 adults and 7 year old child was not lucky. even the weather reflected my mood, dark skies with a constant snowfall trapping us inside.

turning around, i noticed a frozen water fall. snowflakes rained down onto my head. the waterfall was covered in piles of snow, making it quite obscure.

today was barely better than yesterday, but my uncles were determined to do a cross country trail to make most of our last day in this snowy terrain.

i was so deep in thought that i almost didn't notice my phone buzzing from the inside of my pocket. pulling out my phone, i saw a text message from brianna.

brianna may be my best friend, but sometimes i get sick of her problems. if she would listen to me for once, she wouldn't end up in these situations.

what's happening in her life now?

bri: I HAVE TO TALK TO YOU

i rolled my eyes. it's not like i hate her, it's just that i don't want her to get hurt.

pulling out my airpods, i jammed them into my ears as i scrolled through my endless playlists. after finally deciding on one, i shut off my phone and tried to catch up with my family.

as old melodic tunes flowed through my ears, i continued to walk mindlessly. i knew other people thought that my interest in old things was strange. when i caught up with my family, i wasn't surprised that no one paid attention to me.

we soon reached the hotel. as i stepped inside, i could see the next batch of vacationers trying to check in. after finally reaching our hotel room, i plopped down on my bed. closing my eyes, i tried my best to get some rest.

after what seemed like a second, i heard my mother yell out,

"everyone get to the lobby! the bus is here to pick us up!"

 my eyes opened in shock.

of course. just as i start to feel tired.

when i reached the lobby, sat down on a nearby bench. waiting for the rest of my family to hurry up. as i rubbed the tiredness away from my eyes, i noticed a boy looking at me.

i stared back at him with an inquisitive look. he looked away quickly when he noticed me looking back at him. i took a closer look at him.

he had dark, raven hair that was swooped up in a cowlick. i looked curiously at his hair, which seemed to be defying gravity. he was standing next to what i assumed was his family, who were bigger and rowdier than mine, and he was also unfortunately the only teenager.

"(y/n)!" my dad shouted. okay, time to go.

i grabbed my suitcase and gave the boy one last glance. our eyes quickly met and a warm blush spread across both of our cheeks. i abruptly turn my head and confidently stepped out of the hotel, right into the huge bus waiting to bring me home.
