Friends are there for each other, through thick and thin. Well, I guess true friends are. I consider myself a true friend. I also consider Arianna a true friend. Which is how I ended up in this particular predicament. This very troubled predicament where I am at this current moment in time is on the back of some random stranger.
Why am I on the back of some stranger, you ask? Well let’s just rewind about thirty-three point four seconds ago.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open, revealing a small bedroom with only a single lamp on in the far corner. As my eyes quickly adjusted to the sudden dimness, they widened at what they saw.
My protective instincts kicked in faster than my brain could register as I sprinted over to the boy on top of my clearly out of it best friend. With almost an animalistic intuition, I pounced on the persons back and yanked him off of Arianna. I let out an inward sigh when I realized the two were still fully clothed; thankful that I got here in time.
“Get off of me!” the boy who had just been on top of my friend merely seconds ago cried out in surprise. I started beating on his back with my clenched fists, “How dare you!!!” I screamed as loud as I could in his ear. I was furious. I was livid. But most of all, I was scared.
I felt the tears swell in my eyes, but forced myself to push them away. Arianna still hadn’t moved from her spot on the bed. Her closed eyes made my heart twist in worry. “What. Did. You. Do. To. Her!?” I emphasize each syllable with a pounding from my small fist. The boy beneath me was hardly phased, to say the least.
Suddenly, I was bucked off of his back and on the floor in a split second, my back aching from the impact. My head throbbed, and I could only guess that I hit it on the hard wood floor. I groaned out loud, my vision slightly blurry from the collision. That was about the time where Jason, the idiot, decided to make an appearance.
“Reagan? What’s going on in here?” he sounded confused at first, but as his eyes took in the scene before him, anger streaked across his face like a lightning bolt. “Who are you and what the hell did you do?” I forced myself to ignore the small profanity that came out of his mouth.
I really did not like swearing.
Brain: Oh, shut up! He’s saving you, here.
Me: Correction, he’s saving Arianna. I’m completely fine!
Brain: Correction! You’re saving Arianna, and he’s saving you. My goodness, you really are an idiot.
Me: Don’t talk about yourself that way.
Brain: But I…wait, what?
Me: Mmm, hmm! That’s what I thought!
Brain: Shut up! Jason’s talking!
I came out of my internal argument to find Jason kneeling in front of me, a look of concern in his eyes. “Are you alright?” he repeated. Wait, what happened? Where was creeper-guy?
I looked around the room, confused, until I saw creeper-guy sprawled out on the floor with a bruise forming on his face. He was clearly knocked out by none other than Jason Richards. My heart fluttered with relief, thankful that Jason came when he did. But then I was slightly confused at where he had been before.
“Where were you?” the question came out as a shaky whisper. A flash of guilt crossed his face, “The bathroom. I’m so sorry.” The bathroom? Really? I rolled my eyes, pushing myself up with my elbows, “Gosh you really are such an idiot, you know that?”
My head pounded as I tried to get myself to a standing position. I felt myself tilt and wobble a bit before strong hands steadied me. “What happened?” Jason squinted, looking into my eyes. “I jumped on the guy, got him off of Ari, he bucked me off, then I hit my head,” the explanation made me laugh inwardly. Man, I sounded like an idiot.
“When I find out who that guy is, he’s going to be in seriously deep sh-”
“Don’t swear around me. Ever.”
Jason moved his gaze away from the unconscious stranger and landed it back on me. “What?” to say he looked confused was an understatement. “Don’t swear in front of me ever again, got it? Nothing against you…” well, yeah it was against him too, “But I just don’t like it.”
A small chuckle rumbled from his chest, “That’s cute, Alexander. Very cute.” Did he seriously just say that? Oh no he didn’t!
Brain: Hate to interrupt this wonderful conversation, but ARIANNA!!
“Crap! Ari!” I jumped in place, turning to go to my passed out friend. “Ari?” I called, shaking her slightly. All I got in response was a “mmmph”. “Jason, is she alright?” the tears threatened in my eyes again.
I took a step back as Jason looked her over, then with a nod, “Yeah, she’s fine. Majorly drunk, but fine.” I sighed in relief. It really was a good thing that I got here when I did. Sirens in the distance caught both of our attention as our heads snapped to the direction of the window in sync.
Jason cursed under his breath, either forgetting what I just said not three minutes ago or thinking I couldn’t hear him. Before I got a chance to scold him, he was picking Arianna up and pushing me towards the door. “Yell at me later, but we have got to get out of here now,” he realized I heard. Good. He knew what was coming to him later, then!
I felt him take my hand as he dragged me out of the room, Arianna hanging limply over his shoulder. As if our lives depended on it-which they might as well have-we booked it down the hallway, raced down the narrow stairs as we pushed our way through the crowd, then out the door in a flash. “Where did you park?” he breathed out.
“Over there,” I pointed to the far corner of the grassy lawn. He pulled me over to the car, and waited for me to unlock it. Once the doors clicked, Jason yanked the back door open and quickly placed Arianna in the back seat, buckling her in safely. Shutting her inside, he pulled me to the drivers’ side and opened the door swiftly.
“Get in.”
“What about you?”
“Forget about me and get the heck out of here. I’m going to make sure your brother listened to me and got out. I don’t think he did because his car is still here,” Jason nodded towards the red Honda that my dad normally used. Why did he have it?
“Alright,” I hesitated, before lowering myself into the car. “Be safe,” was all Jason said before shutting the door on me. I started the car as I watched him jog back towards the lit up house, hoping that he would get out before the cops arrived. Heck, I hoped I would get out before the cops arrived!!
Hey Everyone!!! This is really just a "filler" chapter, so I am really sorry that it's a little short. I would like to thank everyone for all the support you guys have given me! Seriously, THANK YOU! I will be uploading probably either this weekend OR sometime next week. Have a great night!
