I opened the door to homeroom, glancing down at my schedule one last time before dumping it in the trash. "I'm sorry I'm late, Mrs. Gibbins. I had a bit of hallway navigating trouble." Truth is, after that jerk ran into me earlier, I had to pick up all of the stuff I had dropped, resulting in my tardiness.
"Its quite alright Ms.......Kiara Silver.
After all, it's only the first day, so I can make an exception this one time. Why don't you have a seat right in the back?" She said, indicating the only available seat. Looking around as I sat, I noticed the dude I ran into earlier glaring at me. "So, plan on apologizing, or are you just going to sit there?" He whispered, causing me to narrow my eyes at him in anger."I'm not the one who needs to be apologizing, hot shot. Obviously, you need to take it down a notch, because I don't have time for your attitude." I respond, turning back to the board. Suddenly, I felt a sudden burst of pain coming between my shoulder blades, causing my eyes to squint. Raising my hand, I hurriedly ask, "May I visit the restroom, ma'am?" The teacher squinted at me, obviously trying to figure out if it was an emergency. Mistaking my pain for a pee pee dance, she pointed to the door, not saying a word, and began teaching the class again.
As soon as I was out, I began sprinting through the hallway, making my way towards the bathroom. Opening the door, I quickly removed my jacket, and turn my back towards the mirror. To my astonishment, I notice two feathers parallel to each other, right on the tips of my shoulder blades. Right as I'm about to slip my jacket back on, I notice slight movement, and the feathers popped out farther exposing more feathers. My eyes widen in surprise, watching as two wings grew on my back.
This can't possibly be happening.....this is a dream. Yes. That's got to be it. There's NO WAY that I'm turning into some kind of half breed bird.
"Actually, we're called the winged. You see, you aren't completely human. In fact, you're hardly human at all. You're a species the humans haven't heard about, and won't EVER hear about."
Whipping around to face the door, I'm face to face with Brandon. However, his eyes are now shining, turning between blue and gray. Finally, his eyes settle on gray, and wings flare out in opposite directions. "What the hell???!! Uh, dude, you have wings!" I shout, staring wide-eyed at the gray feathers, with blue tips.
What. The. Hell.
Turning back towards the mirror, I see my wings fully grown now, the feathers a solid white. The color nearly blinds me, and I quickly turn away. "Don't worry, your feathers will change color. When they're first grown, they're all white, then over the course of a month they turn the color they're supposed to be."
This is too much....I can't do this right now.
Rushing out of the bathroom, I sprint towards class, taking my seat and closing my eyes, drowning out the droning of my teacher.
