Not A Great Start

I caught myself dozing off in the middle of the teacher rambling on about people always going on their phones. Why do they care? Some kids really don't want to learn. And some do. Just teach and the ones who want to learn, will learn.

"Autumn?"

I fluttered my eyes a few times before I could make out who was in front of me. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was also pretty scrawny.

"Do I know you?"

He chuckled.

"No. I sit in the far back of the class. I'm Jack, Jack Johnson."

"Thanks for waking me up. If it wasn't for you, I'd be late to Psych."

I pushed my chair in and walked to my next class with Jack.

"So how come I never see you around or hear you volunteer in class?"

I rubbed my eyes and stood outside the classroom.

"I'm just a quiet and focused person, I guess. I'd rather listen to people make fools of themselves rather than, you know, make a fool of myself." He said.

I laughed. Not only was it true,  Mrs. Krum's class was pretty unintelligent,  but I am pretty sure she's just a bad teacher and people say really stupid things to give her the hint.

"Haha, Jack?"

"What's up?"

"Wanna get coffee or something after school?"

He smirked, partially revealing his pearly whites.

"Sure. Did you drive here?"

"No, I didn't."

"Meet me by the flagpole after class and we can go."

I gave him a wink and went into class.

The minute couldn't pass by any slower. "uggghhh" I groaned. For some reason I was excited to hang out with Jack. Or I was just amused that anyone actually wanted to hang out with me. It's been a little too long since I've last hung out with someone. And I'm glad I can finally get out and about.

"Are you excited that tomorrow is the last day of school?!?"

"Yes, I am."

I smiled.

"Are you going to college right after this summer?" I asked him.

"I plan on it but I think I should wait a little longer. How about you?"

"Yeah. I'm going to go to Northwestern in the fall."

Jack looked at me confused.

"Where is that?"

"Illinois."

"Oooh. Why don't you want to stay in San Fran?"

"I want to broaden my horizons, you know?" He nodded his head as he pulled into a parking spot.

We both got out of the car and walked into the cafe and ordered our weird drink orders. I laughed concluding the fact it describes how complicated our minds are as people.

"What are you doi-"

Jack got cut off to his phone ringing in his pocket. He rolled his eyes as he read the name on the screen.

"Jack, what's up man?"

I grabbed our drinks and walked outside to the patio.

"Do you mind if I drive back to my place? You can come with and we can hang later. Jack needs me for some nonsense."
