"Wait, let me get this straight," a very perturbed hedgehog says, massaging away his oncoming headache, "you tried to stop Eggman in his latest scheme, resulting in you turning into that thing every night because of that Dark Gaia creature, found Light Gaia but he lost his memory, regained his memories and fought off Dark Gaia with him in your super form while simultaneously curing you of your... uh... lycanthropy, and then the two of them returned to their 10,000 year sleep. Did I get everything?"
Sonic nods, resting his head in his hand. "Pretty much, exceeeeeept for the fact that I still turn every night and," he pauses with a sullen sigh, "I'm having more difficulty controlling myself each night..."
Shadow, who had his eyes closed the whole time, now looks to the dispirited hero, feeling sorry for him - to some extent, of course. He picks himself up from his couch, walking over to the blue hero, and pats his shoulder comfortingly. Sonic snaps out of his daze and looks up to the ultimate life-form. He smiles warmly at his dark counterpart and thanks him, only to get an almost inaudible huff as a response. This makes him chuckle. 'Yep, still the same old grump-hog,' he thinks to himself.
Sonic's laughter is quickly killed off when he sees what time it is. It's not ridiculously late but, being winter, it gets darker quicker. Knitting his brows together, Shadow follows his stare, realising why the blue blur went so suddenly silent after landing on the old grandfather clock. He scowls quietly. 'I never did like that clock.'
"Thanks," Sonic says abruptly, getting up, "but I should really get going."
Before he gets the chance to even take one step, a hand around his arm stops him. Surprised, he turns his head back. He can't decide if he's scared or touched by what he sees: Shadow preventing him from leaving with the most expressionless look he's ever seen on the dark hedgehog's face. Yet, his eyes hold so much emotion, it's a surprise he hasn't erupted.
Once again, Sonic finds himself enraptured in the ruby red gaze and, much like before, he's speechless.
The voice of his counterpart pulls him away from his thoughts. "You're not going alone. Someone needs to keep an eye on you."
He attempts to object but Shadow has already left the apartment. Although this isn't really what he wants, Sonic can't help but find the situation slightly amusing. 'Guess he does have a soft side after all.'
Reluctantly, he follows after his counterpart as they steadily walk towards the woods, still having some time to spare. The blue hedgehog hopes that walking at such a pace will somehow prolong the inevitable. No. He knows it won't. Yet, he has to have some hope, at least.
His double takes a quick glance at him, silently wondering what is on his mind and why on Earth he's smiling! 'Wasn't he sulking earlier? Why is he suddenly so happy-looking?' The thought perplexes him but he shoos it away. That's just how the hero is, he supposes: always seeing the positives in life; never giving up, even when all seems lost; practically having a permanent smile fixated onto his face; and, above all, his cocky yet caring attitude standing out amongst all of the destruction and tyranny that Eggman causes.
This, however, is different.
Sonic's actually genuinely fearful of this... beast lurking within him. Sure, everyone has their fears but it takes a lot to scare the world-renowned speed demon. Excluding water, of course. Nonetheless, Shadow can't really blame him. Transforming against your will and being forced to succumb to just monstrous urges must be unpleasant to say the least. The more he thinks about it, the more he feels sorry for the "cursed" hedgehog. Is he getting soft on the faker?
"We're here," Sonic's voice breaks through the chill evening like a one thousand degree knife even though it's so quiet and glum.
Shadow stays unresponsive, truly unsure of what to say, and strolls further into the forest with the other close behind.
The last moments of the sleepy sun peer through the dense trees, gasping for its last few moments of freedom. This allows for the thin slither of silver-white to become more apparent in the dark blue, along with a few stars riddled here and there. Sonic marvels at the sight.
It's a shame he can't enjoy it.
His breath gets caught in his throat when a sharp pain detonates within his abdomen, spreading across his body like wild fire. Grunting, he falls to his knees, laying his hands down on the icy ground. Shadow turns back when he hears hushful grimacing and helplessly watches, clearly not sure of what to do.
Clenching his eyes shut, Sonic lets out another anguished grunt. "Please... don't look..."
The dark hedgehog distances himself more so than before and turns away, respecting his fakers wishes. He struggles to concentrate on anything other than the increasing intensity in cries of pain and agony. It isn't until the wailing turns into growling when Shadow finally turns back around, eyes widening. The once blue Mobian is now covered head-to-toe in thick, navy blue and white fur, he's grown an exceedingly large amount in size (a lot more bulky than Shadow remembers from the previous night), and altogether the sight is both astounding and slightly unnerving.
The creature pants heavily, obviously the transformation must be quite tiring, and gradually lifts itself from the floor. It shakes its head and lets its fierce, green eyes wonder every surface of the wooded area. Within no time, it lands on the ultimate life-form, hunching its shoulders and growling in his general direction.
"Faker?" Shadow calls, reaching his hand out, as if trying to reach out for any part of Sonic that's still in the werehog. "Are you okay?"
He receives a menacing growl as a response and it proceeds to leisurely strides towards him, sizing the hedgehog up like a predator would to its prey. Shadow returns the hostility with an equally as threatening scowl.
Time for round two.
