His eyes open slowly, empty and staring at the ceiling, which was just as empty. White; emotionless. He lays there completely still, simply existing.

Another boy opens his eyes just as slowly at the same time, a sigh escaping his lips as he dreads glancing at the clock. He looks to his side and a relieved sigh escapes his lips as he reads; 2:30. A couple more hours of merciful sleep to escape reality.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, the first boy struggles to sleep. His thoughts are running through his head and a dull ache is throbbing behind his temple. There's a lump in his throat that's been there since he woke up, but he can't bring himself to cry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the second boy awakes from a dreamless slumber it's to a bellowing woman from downstairs.
"JOSH! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE, WAKE UP!" With a new burst of energy, Josh jumps out of his bed in panic.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Tyler, honey, I'm sorry I didn't wake you sooner, you'll be late for your first day if you don't w-" When Mrs Joseph peaks into her sons room she finds him already dressed and ready, staring at the wall as if it held all the answers.
"Are you okay kiddo?" She asks softly, and he finally breaks his glaring contest with the wallpaper and glances at her. He smiles at her reassuringly.
"Of course, I'm fine mom, why'd you ask?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josh fiddles restlessly in his chair as he bites his lip and skims over the questions once more. He doesn't want to ask the teacher for help, because it would bring attention to him, and he doesn't want that, not at all. Instead, Josh decides to struggle on his own, yup-dee-doo!
"Class, we have a new student" Announces the teacher, motioning for the kid cowering in the doorway to get closer. He walks in with his head down and glances around the room nervously. He pulled his hoodie's sleeve down self-consciously and rubs the back of his neck, "Would you like to introduce yourself?" asks the teacher, not un-kindly.
"M-my name is Tyler Joseph" he bites out, his voice is raspy and calming, and makes Josh smile a little. Despite his obvious interest in the kid, Josh moves back to his work, because he really needs it done, he can't afford another detention.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tyler walks into class with a knot in his stomach, forcing words through his teeth when the teacher asks him to introduce himself. He sits in the only empty seat next to a boy whose looking perplexed at his work, and just stares out the window until his next class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When class ends Josh looks up and is surprised to find the new kid- Tyler is it?- sitting next to him. Josh doesn't think Tyler realises it's the end of lesson, so he lightly taps his shoulder until the dazed boy turns around. Dull sadness swimming in his dark, russet brown eyes, Tyler tilts his head shyly in question.
"It's the end of class" Josh offers, with a small half smile. Tyler's eyes widen, and he rushes to put everything away.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Says a warm voice, amusement evident in his tone. Tyler glances up from his frantic efforts to leave class quickly,
"I... erm don't want to be late for my next class" He mumbles quietly. Pathetic, he thinks.
"Well, you have plenty of time" The boy answers, friendly eyes trained on him. Tyler blushes in embarrassment .
"I don't actually know... where it is" He admits. A light, breathy laugh filled the room, the sound, to Tyler's ears, was like a brook flowing merrily through a dense forest.
"That's okay, here, let me see your schedule, I'll walk you there" Tyler hands it over.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good luck, Mrs Dye is a terrible maths teacher" Josh waits until he spots Tyler take a seat at the back of the classroom until he starts walking to his next class.
It's weird, usually Josh is very reluctant to talk to new people, his anxiety usually getting the best of him, but Tyler was surprisingly easy to approach.
Perhaps it was his peculiar flower shoes, or the fluffy brown sable hair, but whatever it was, it made Josh comfortable enough to initiate conversation fairly quickly, which he was happy about.
He spent the next class thinking about the shy boy with the sad eyes.
