Chapter 5A
Shizuko and Dancer stood/sat by the picnic table, watching as their human family and the others of the guild finish packing up and head out to the trail that would take them down the mountain. She had to admit that she was kind of nervous. This would be the beginning of her new life in the human world and she just wasn't sure she could do it. Lightening saw this and quietly went over and talked to the Strauss siblings and told them what she had observed. Lisanna placed her pack on her back and went over to her little sister and held her arms out, signalling to Shizuko her intention to pick her up.
"Come on Shizuko, we're leaving. And don't worry, we will all help you get used to things." Lisanna replied gently as she picked up her sister. Dancer followed close behind her.
When the three got to the group, everyone smiled and headed down the trail. Their friends would indeed have stories to tell of their get away. Especially the older Strauss siblings. Little did any of them know how big the task of helping the little girl was. Where they took every day items in their lives for granted, would be a real challenge for the little Strauss child and her wolf companion.
Half way down the mountain, Shizuko started to get bored and wiggled and squirmed to be put down; wanting to walk or run around the rest of the way down the mountain. She immediately pounced on Dancer and they wrestled for a moment before chasing each other around the others. Most of the guild couldn't help but laugh as they watched the two run in to the forest. It was kind of refreshing to have two energetic young ones around them. A few minutes later, Shizuko came out with a medium sized snake in her right hand. Lisanna and a few of the other women shrieked when they saw it; causing the little girl to jerk in surprise. Lightening went over to her and knelt down, knowing that the startled child wanted to say something.
"What is their problem?! It's just a harmless snake!" Shizuko growled out.
"I know Shizuko, but a lot of people are scared of snakes. Besides it is a wild creature and it should remain in the wild." Lightening replied gently. As the little girl sighed and released the snake, Lightening spoke to the others. "This snake is just a harmless grass snake. You don't need to be scared of it."
"They're slimy and evil." Lucy replied, shivering in fright.
"Who told you that? Have you ever picked one up?" Romeo asked, coming in Shizuko's defense.
"No one and no I haven't. And I don't care too." Lucy answered with a huff. Just then the snake came back and climbed up Shizuko's leg and up to her shoulders. It draped itself around her neck and raised it's head, rubbing it against her cheek.
"It wants to stay. If it goes, I go." Shizuko yipped and growled out, putting an extremely determined and stubborn look on her face. Mira sighed, realizing that they weren't going any further until this matter was settled. She went over to her her little sister and Lightening and knelt down.
"Alright Shizuko, you can keep the snake, but you are responsible for it. If it bothers anyone, it comes back to the wild. Understood?" Mirajane replied firmly. Lightening translated for the little girl, who quickly nodded her head.
"Good. Now let's get to the bus and home. We have to get on to the bus before it leaves without us." Mira replied standing up and taking the little girl's hand. Five minutes later, the turned a corner on the path and noticed the bus waiting for them. She looked down as she felt Shizuko's little hand tighten in hers and start to shake. It took MiraJane a moment but she realized that fear had taken over her little sister, and it was the fear of the bus. An unknown object that just might be dangerous to the little girl.
"It's okay Shizuko. Nothing is going to happen to you." Mira reassured, picking Shizuko up and placing her on her hip. She looked over at her brother and sister in surprise. "She really is scared; she's shaking like a leaf!"
As they got to the side of the bus, Mira heard her sister start to growl out of fear. She tightened her grip on the little girl and quickly stepped on to the bus, smacking it as she entered it. The little girl giggled at the action, causing MiraJane, Lisanna and Elfman to smirk at the sound. The bus driver had seen all this and smiled. When everyone was on and seated, he released the brake and let the bus's momentum take them down the hill; only using the brakes to slow them down a little.
It didn't take long for the bus to turn into the parking lot at the base of the mountain. The driver opened the doors and everyone hurried out and gathered their bags and left for their homes. Elfman quickly retrieved theirs and gently picked up Shizuko, putting her on one shoulder; his bag on the other. Dancer trotted by his side, looking up at his sister from time to time.
Lightening joined the Strausses for a short distance before she needed to turn down another street to her home. Shizuko watched everything from Elfman's shoulders, her curiousity almost getting the better of her. She leaned a little too far to see something and almost fell of his shoulders.
"Easy Shizuko. You have lot of time to see all the new things around you." Elfman replied gently, catching her quickly and putting her back up where she had been. "We're just about home."
"Here we are Shizuko. You're new home." Lisanna replied. After a few more minutes of walking, they all turned in to the driveway and walked in to the back yard. The little girl ran over to the side of the garage and put her new friend down on the grass; watching as it found an overturned, broken flower pot near the wall and slithered over to it, vanishing from sight for a moment.
"Alright Shizuko, it's time to go inside. Lisanna, will you go and run a bath for Shizuko. She's filthy." MiraJane asked as they went inside and put her bag down on the table.
"Okay sis." Lisanna answered and hurried down the hall." Lisanna answered. MiraJane quickly put away the leftover supplies as Shizuko began to explore. Just as she closed the cupboard door and entered the hallway, the little wolf girl came skidding out of the bathroom, backwards, shrieking her lungs out. She hurried over to the trembling child and checked her for anything that might have harmed her.
"Lisanna, what's going on here. Why's Shizuko acting like this?" MiraJane asked bewildered.
"I don't know. I was just adding some bath bubbles when she came in. She took one look at the bathtub and...exited the bathroom that way." Lisanna reported.
"Shizuko, it's alright. That's just a bathtub." MiraJane reassured gently, picking her trembling sister up. As she went to enter the bathroom, Shizuko suddenly snapped her arms out, not wanting to enter the terrible place again.
"Shizuko, enough! You need a bath and you are going to have one! MiraJane replied sternly, suddenly turning sideways and stepping inside the room quickly. She let out a quiet warning growl that caused the little girl to calm down enough for MiraJane to take off her clothes. She wasn't stupid; she knew what that growl meant. Even though she was still shaking, she stood still.
