Flat Line

Walking alone at night isn't pleasant, but if you add in wind and rain, it becomes almost unbearably intolerable. It's even worse if you don't really know your way around.

As her hair was tugged at by the wind and her face was pummelled by torrential rain, she cursed her stupid brother for leaving the party early. Reaching into her purse she pulled out her phone attempting to dial her home phone until the screen was inundated with water, hindering her progress. She tried again after wiping off the screen but finally gave up once the rain got heavier.  Pulling her coat tighter around herself, she continued on towards her street.

Now if it had not been for the storm that night or the party she'd just left, she might've made it home safe. However, as the title of this story describes, someone has to get hurt for the story to work. It just so happens, fate was about to kick in only moments later. The screeching of tires echoed around the neighbourhood, but as there was a storm the residents assumed the water had made the screeching sound louder and didn't go out to check.

It wasnt until the neighbourhood flashed red and blue that the crowds started forming and people were faced with the horror moments ago they had been ignorant to. The whispers created a buzz in the air, that sounded more like a nest of wasps had gathered to witness the commotion.  Noone recognised the small figure, whose blood was turning the road red, until a womans scream was heard. She was a mother who had come looking for her daughter, and instead found this. By now the rain had stopped and police had started to cordon off the area but for the family of the girl, who's life was slowly fading away on the cold, wet streets the storm was just beginning.

And it wouldn't be over until the sound of a flat line said it was.
