Once I got to my den in instantly felt my paws again it felt like I was stepping on top of human rocks. (Needles) I whimpered and pressed my paws up against my wet fur. Every winter here in Ohio is a struggle that I never can seem to master but at least I survive. Winter will be over soon thank Lupus but for the foxes down in the south part of the world winter is just starting. A strong scent hit my nose. A male fox obviously a dominant one too. I know what your thinking. I should be strunting my stuff and walking around acting full of myself. NO. I'm not one to be awed into males especially around winter time. In the winter the males look for females for completely different reasons than being mates. Instead they're looking for cubs to eat. I of course have none but there is something I have that he will want. Food. I strained my ears to ear his paw steps but I couldn't hear them. I ducked over my meat as I heard him enter my den. "Hello? Who's here?" The male fox Barked trying to sound vicious but his voice was shaking. I whined quietly but didn't back down. "I'm Kodak why are you trespassing in my den?" I growled and by the sound of my voice I was obviously dominant by the sound of voice I had. "I'm starving and need some food and shelter I can't find my mom or siblings" the  voice barked again. I bunched my muscles and leapt to my den entrance. There was a red shivering st the entrance and I couldn't pick up any other fox scents around. "What do I have to do with it?" I growled. He flattened his ears to show I was dominant. "I just want some food and a place to sleep for the night" he said softly. I sighed. "What's your name?" I barked harshly. "I'm Zayne" he told me still flattened against the ground. "Come on Zayne you can stay for a night or two and I'll see what I can rustle up" I told him flicking my tail and spinning around. I can be harsh but I do have a heart you know. He sighed in relief and followed me by my side. I looked him over. He wasn't flea bitten and didn't have any ticks which was good, he did have lots of bite marks and deep scratches though. "I can help with those scratches and bites if you want, I have herbs" I told him still walking since my den was huge and lead to a tunnel system underground. "Yes please thank you" he said focused on the meat smell. I went into the room with all the food and his eyes widened in awe. I seen crazed hunger flash in his eyes for a second than he started eating. "I'll be in my part of the den if you need me, it's the one with my scent markers." I told him walking away my tail swishing low.
