Katie's pov
I was woken up being shaken like a mad man, I open my eyes to see Carl and Sophia. I smile and sit up looking at the two kids.
Me: alright who told you to wake me up?
Sophia and Carl: Dad/Rick.
I sigh and get up, they take me to the rude police officer and when we got to him I smack his neck really hard. He hisses in pain and rubs his neck while looking at me, I smirk and he just smiles while shaking his head.
Me: what do you know you can turn someone into a red neck.
Rick: I guess I deserved that.
Me: you guess?
he chuckled and nodded his head.
Rick: alright I deserved that.
We laughed and that's when he filled me in on how we are looking for shit on the damn highway, we started helping when we saw a giant ass herd coming towards us. We told everyone to get under the cars we rolled under one ourselves, I look next to us to see Carl and Sophia in separate cars right next to us. When we saw no more feet walking or dragging by Sophia came out and before I knew it she screams, Rick rolls out of the car and runs after her we all get out of under the cars and wait tell they come back. Me and Kat are sitting on top of a car and we start talking, I see that Daryl is starring at her and when she looks they have a starting contest tell she breaks it looking at me. I smirk and that's when she blushes really bad.
Me: oh my god, my best friend has a crush on Daryl Dixon.
Kat: yea, so what.
I chuckle and herd her evilly chuckle.
Kat: at least I'm dating a sheriff, who knows what you guys do when you get it on.
I can feel my face heat up to the point I can tell I'm as red as a stop sign, she starts laughing so hard a tear is rolling down her cheek. She wipes it off and stops laughing at me.
Me: he is not my boyfriend and we never did it thank you very much.
Kat: uh huh, sure you haven't.
Me: whatever, hey I herd you talked to Rick and Lori.
Kat: yea did my advice thingy that you say I'm good at, found out I'm pretty good at it.
Me: well thanks to you he's not mad anymore and Shane still looks at me funny but you know.
Kat: I think he's going to do something that's going to get us killed.
Me: your probably right, but karma's going to come bite him in the ass some day.
She nods and I herd Daryl calling her.
Kat: I'm going to go see what Daryl wants, be safe Minnie Rick.
I chuckle and she hops off than walks over to Daryl, I saw Rick come out of the woods and immediately Carol starts blaming him. He walks over to me and sits down.
Me: we'll fine her Rick, come on let's make a search party.
Rick: alright.
Me: Shane, Kat, Daryl let's go.
They nodded and we went in the woods to go find Sophia, we went to where he last saw her and saw Daryl looking at the ground. Kat does the same and they start whispering to each other while Shane keeps questioning Rick.
Me: how about this Daryl and Kat go looking for Sophia since there good at tracking while we head back to the highway, got it?
Kat: got it.
I nod and help Rick out of the creak, us three start walking back to the highway. When we get there I told Carol that Daryl and Kat are following her tracks, she nods and I give her a sad smile. I walk away and join Rick on one of the cars, I sit next to him and by the look on his face I knew he felt guilty.
Me: it's not your fault Rick.
He looks at me and sighs.
Rick: how do you know? I shouldn't have left her alone.
Me: you did it to protect her, I would've done the same thing.
Rick: I know but come on Katie, I lost a little girl in the woods.
Me: so.
He looks at me like I was crazy.
Me: Rick I went camping with my Dad and got lost in the woods for four days, I was six years old and I found my way back. I'm pretty sure Sophia can as well.
He smiles at me and hugs me, I hug him back when we release he kisses my temple and I can feel my face heating up. We herd rustling in the trees and look to see what it was, we saw Daryl and Kat covered in blood. We ran over to see if it was there's it wasn't tho.
Carol: is-is that blood.
Kat: yea, it isn't Sophia's though so don't worry.
Rick: well who's blood id it than?
Daryl: we took down a near by walker.
Carol: oh-oh my god, no.
Kat: it didn't get near Sophia.
Shane scoffs and rolls his eyes at bot Kat and Daryl.
Andrea: how do you know?
Daryl: we cut the son of a bitch open, only found a wood chuck.
Carol falls onto her knees and start's breathing heavy, she than looks at Rick and glares at him.
Carol: how can you just leave her out there, she's only twelve years old. She's just a child, she's just a child.
Me: Carol he understands that but he did what was best for her, he did that so he can lead the walkers away from her and also told her where to go also what to do. She is a smart little girl I'm pretty sure she can find somewhere safe to sleep and hide until we find her, ok?
She nods and starts to cry, I take her into the RV and she curls up into a little ball on the bed. I walk out and see Rick talking to Shane, I walk over to just hearing range so I can hear what there saying.
Rick: what are you trying to say Shane?
Shane: I'm saying you need to stop worrying about Katie and go back to your wife.
Rick: don't you see she doesn't love me, she loves you! My own wife loves my best friend and is leaving me for my best friend, but you know what that's fine because I found someone that I love and that won't leave me for someone else.
Shane: whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, are you telling me you to are dating?!
Rick: well no not exactly, but I'm going to ask her when I'm ready and you will not mess this up for me!
Shane: do you even hear yourself! she's changing you man!
Rick: whatever just leave me alone Shane!
I walk away and walk over to Kat who is starring at the moon, I lay next to her and we stare at the moon together. Before I knew it we both fall asleep.
