Chapter 1:
"Run!" Shouted Shelby as they all ran down the shadow ridden street. All three of them, hair blowing everywhere, sprinted away from the Shihigi soldiers who wore shadow blue robes and metallic armour. Closer and closer the soldiers became to finally having the rebels under their grasp. They all turned round a corner into an alley way which made the bellowing of the soldiers boots echo around. The three children relied that they had run into a dead end!
"We are done for!" Sighed Amy, as the heavy rain clouds above became even more angry, even though she was the positive one of the duo. All of the Shihigi solders were surrounding them now, spears points and hungry to kill. The fierce leader approached the children with caution.
"On my mark," he shouted lifting his fist into the air, "One, two, three!-," he quickly pulled his arm down signalling to the solider to stab the kids. Suddenly a blinding blue explosion of flames burst out of the ground encasing the three children in a safe casing! All of the soldiers' spears were sent flying on contact with the blue shield.Jake was casually lying on his rotting bed staring up at the ceiling that's paint was chipping pff by the second. Dark and gloomy, the room was shared by Jake, Shelby and Amy. They ate there, they slept there and lived there. "Well that went well," said Amy sarcastically as she passed up and down the room. She had long brunette hair that swayed from side to side when she walked and she always wore a dark red T-shirt with a denim jacket. She also wore dark blue skinny jeans and red vans.
"It could have been worse," replied Jake. "I knew what I was doing!" He holds up a bracelet the was matte black apart from a slim blue ring at one side of it. Shelby looked at him as if he was mental.
"Even if you did know what you were doing, that was a risky move, if it hadn't worked or got jammed, we would all be
dead by now!" Shelby looks out of the greasy window which sits amongst others on the side of an abandoned apartment, that was at home with hundreds upon hundreds of derelict buildings in Beijing. Sadly, when the king of the Bakari died, all of the Shihigi though of it as an opportunity to destroy all of Beijing and take full control over China. For over ten years, there was a huge fight that was a massacre of both Shihigi and Bakari but in the end, the Shihigi emerged victorious. Luckily, some of the Bakari survived and went into hiding. They formed new civilisations and tried to re-build their place in the world, they even managed to put a high defence shield up around Beijing. After a while the Shihigi found the remaining Bakari and they slaughtered them all into extinction.... At least, thats what they thought.Shelby was still staring out of the window glumly. "Do you think that the shield will ever brake?" She asked. Jake got up and walked to the window. He looked out sadly to all of the corrupted skeletons and corpses laying on the course ground and also to one of the main shield generators where Shihigi scientists were trying to bring the shield down.
"Eventually they will. It's just a matter of time before they realise that it is magic not science holding the shields up," Jake replied. He sighed and walked slowly to the rotted door of the apartment. "We have to go now anyway, I think that the south-west side of the city's Shihigi patrol hasn't turned up yet so if we are quick, we could get out," Jake exclaimed to make the situation not seem as terrible as it was. Amy looked at him, got up glumly and threw her ruck-sack onto her back. Shelby, however, just stood by the window with no expression to show how she felt.
"Do you really think we can make it?" She said hesitantly as she glared at the scientists in the distance. "Don't you remember the last time we tried that? We almost died! If it wasn't for that stupid bracelet of yours!..." She continued.
"I promise that we will make it this time! But just in cast, I got us these." Jake smirked and tossed a small silver dagger to Shelby and a shiny, dark brown bow and a quiver full of metal pointed tips that flashed in the sunlight. He then kept a long matte black sword in a holster for himself.
"This is really light!" Amy said smiling as she admired the bow. Jake smiled at her and lightly blushed.
"I made it myself. So- umm- shall we set off?" Asked Jake who was still blushing. Shelby didn't reply but instead speedily put her ruck-sack on and sprinted towards the south-west of the city smirking.
"Catch me if you can!" She mocked. Amy and Jake sprinted off towards the escape point with Shelby in the lead. Shelby was a very fast runner. Before the war, Shelby's dad was a world rebound sprinter but then he had to go into the war and he didn't make it out. Shelby's black hair shone brightly making it look like gold in the bright, warm sun's light. Amy suddenly shot her eyes closed as the light, reflecting off Shelby's white hair clip, could have blinded her. All round, Shelby was quite a small girl. She wore a dark blue top and a pastel purple hoodie over the top, she was wearing dark blue sweat-pants and black converse shoes. After a while, all three of them were about 100 meters from the escape point (which the guards on patrol haven't got to yet). They were hiding in a 2 storey house which they could easily make a mad dash towards the escape point.
"Shall we go?" Asked Amy timidly.
"Yes, probably," Jake replied as he put his black hood up covering his face and a black metal mask that he pulled over his mouth and nose. The mask made his voice change slightly and it needed a password for it to be taken off. Both Amy and Shelby did the same but Shelby's mask was blue and Amy's was red. They wore masks because, if they got caught, the Shihigi would have to take the mask off to see who they are. Suddenly a faint rumbling sound came over the horizon. "It's them! We have to go now!" Jake said trying to keep calm. All three of them jumped out of the window and made a mad dash towards the shield. The rumbling became louder and louder until it was clear that it was the next patrol. The patrol included one big truck with a gun mounted on the top of it and four motor-bikes. All three of the children knew that they weren't going to make it to the shield before the patrol did. By now, the patrol were on the escape point and had gotten out of their vehicles. Jake grabbed Amy and Shelby's arms and taped his bracelet. Now, they were invisible to see through the Shihigi's helmets that they wore.
"What did you do?" Asked Amy.
"I will tell you later but for now, all you need to know is that us being invisible is going to be cut off soon and that we need to get to those motor-bikes" Jake said as he pointed to the bikes. "Come on!" Jake, Amy and Shelby (all holding hands still), ran towards the shield. When they passed through it, it felt like they had just disobeyed every single law in the world. Unusually, outside of the shield was a lot warmer than the inside which Shelby liked a lot. They all ran towards the motor-bikes, which still had the keys in them, and got onto them. Out of nowhere, the invisibility cut off and the Shihigi patrol spun around to see the children but before they could do anything, the three children were about 50 meters away. Jake looked back at them "It isn't over yet," Jake sighed as he watched some of the patrol get back into the truck and the left over motor-bike. The chase was on! In a matter of seconds, the truck and bike were upon them. The one on the bike rammed into Shelby making her slightly loose control but as soon as it happened, the Shihigi found an arrow had been plunged into his head by Amy. The corpse fell off the bike making a loud bang when it hit the floor and the motor-bike span out and exploded. Suddenly the truck's gun started firing at Amy who managed to swerve to the right to avoid being shot. Shelby dropped to the back of the truck and stood up on the bike getting prepared to jump. She jumped and barley made it to the truck. Shelby was dangling at the back of the truck trying to get onto the top. With all her strength, she got up and started cautiously walking towards the front of the truck. Shelby dug her dagger through the glass and into the man's head. The truck stoped and so did Amy and Jake. Shelby jumped off the truck.
"Well that went well!" Shelby said sarcastically as she opened the door to the truck and chucked the body out onto the firm ground.
"We have to keep going. The Shihigi should have realised by now that their patrol had gone," Jake sighed as he turned the engine of his motor-bike back on.
"Can't we go in this?" Shelby asked as she sat in the drivers seat of the truck.
"Okay fine. But I get to put the motor-bike in the back," Jake laughed as he wheeled the bike into the back of the truck and got into one of the other seats. Soon, they were driving into the horizon....
