FERN'S P.O.V.

I wake up to constant banging. Woodpecker. I bolt out of bed, not bothering to make it up like I usually do. I snatch my bag from the floor and levitate out of the tree that I call my home. Now you see not every creature shares the same language, fine, but what's strange is that not every creature can understand the other languages... but Nymphs, fairies, pixies and elves can. You could talk to us in any language, and we'd understand. If it was made up, we'd still somewhat understand it, it's like we can read your mind and what you mean. It's really weird.

I glide down my tree effortlessly, glancing at the trees in front of me., the moss and vines look beautiful in the light... creating a pleasing shade of green. I wonder what time it is? I look up and squint my eyes to see where the sun is in the sky. Hmmm, the sun only came up maybe an hour ago? Two at the most. My feet touch the floor and I jump a bit. I forgot I was still going down...

I wonder what's going to happen in the forest today... I mean I know what will happen, but I'm not sure when or how or why. I just get a series of flashes of what will happen, if I concentrate hard enough I'll know for sure, but it gives me an awful headache. I should probably go to the lake and see how Hunter is doing. Hunter and I have been friends for what seems like forever, but really it's only been about two or three years. I walk through the peaceful forest, admiring the sound of the birds and other small animals. Life in the forest is nice and will be for the next century, my tree may die then... I'm kinda hoping it will, so I won't have to see what this place will become. Just the thought sends chills down my spine.

I finally arrive at the lake. It looks stunning. The way the sun shines onto the water and the reflection of the surrounding trees makes it look picturesque and magical. In this lake, there's a great rock, that rises from the water. I squint my eyes so I can see better. Luckily enough, there he is. Hunter. I can just make out his long blue-purple hair and tail. The rest of him is quite hard to see, more like a shadow than a person really. "Hunter!" I call out into the morning air. I see a slight movement of his head, I think he's turning to see who just called him out. He stops for a few seconds and the dives into the water. I see him rise up again in a matter of seconds. He makes me jump. I really need to stop being so easily frightened...

"What's up, Buttercup?" He asks. He's called me 'Buttercup' since we met. I think it's cause Fauna put a buttercup in my hair that day when we met. It's kinda cute, but sometimes I wonder if he actually knows my name.

"Nothing much. Just protecting the forest, as usual. Oh, wait, Fauna was telling me that her wedding's in three weeks! Can you believe it? It's gone so quickly." I say. The time really has gone quickly.

"Yeah, I know right. I've just been having a little swim today, as usual." He says mocking the fact that I always say that I'm protecting the forest 'as usual'. "Hey... um, I was wondering... Do you think you could ask Cliff if he likes anyone at the moment?" He's so adorable when he talks about Cliff. I think everyone knows that he likes him... Well except Cliff.

"Yeah sure. You really like him, don't you?"

"W-what? No! I'm just curious, he's my friend. I'd never be interested in him like that!"He defends. I roll my eyes. As if. "Oh, by the way, I saw Fauna earlier. She was taking a nap over there." He gestures over to a small rock. I can just about see something. I'm not sure, though.
