~Asher~
We followed the shy little she wolf as she guided us through the impressive mansion. I’ve seen it before plenty of times but the look on Mila’s face when she saw all the antiques and elaborate wolf paintings on the wall was priceless.
The mansion has been the Lunar Skye’s pack for many centuries and every generation had made a contribution to their home in some sort.
Within minutes we were back in the main hallway and were accompanied by Liam, Aaron and several other enforcers. Kate was absent. I wasn’t sure if she was with Carmine or if she followed her mother to meet her biological father.
I am extremely happy we brought our thirty best enforcers. With an unknown number of rogues on the loose within the territory it was best have as much back up as possible.
Harding really was predictable in his own unpredictability. He doesn’t have the brains or the wits to execute his plans to perfection. To think he almost succeeded made me think about the fact that there has to be another alpha or powerful leader behind the scenes calling the shots. Harding is just not smart enough to pull it off alone.
Liam looked at me and I mind linked him. ‘Any news?’
‘We spotted some activity outside the pack house borders but no attacks yet, everyone is under lockdown and on high alert. Louis called and said everything is set up and the pack has been notified of all changes. They have orders to take our rogues if needed. Louis gives updates every hour. If anything happens he will call.’
‘Good. Keep me posted.’ I followed Mila up the stairs. Her supple buttocks in that pair of jeans provided me with a scrumptious view to look at.
I look at my beautiful mate and I still can’t believe she is truly mine. Not only is she gorgeous, she is also talented, smart and extremely gutsy. A better combination for me is just not possible.
‘Stop staring at my butt.’ I heard her mind linking me with a smirk evident in her tone.
I grinned and mind linked back. ‘Why should I? It’s the most beautiful piece of art I’ve seen in a long time.’
‘Art huh? I figured art has to be admired from afar.’ She said with a smile.
‘Not a chance love, edible art such as yourself needs to be touched and cherished.’ I teased and thankfully we were on the first floor where we needed to be and our minds drifted to the situation at hand.
We opened the door to the alpha’s room and saw him sitting up with his eyes alert.
Luna Tara sat by his side and Conner was still working on pumping medication into vials and checking the drip that sustained the alpha.
With a raspy voice the alpha started to speak. ‘I owe you my life Woods, if it wasn’t for your timely arrival I would have died because of my own stupidity.’
Tara shushed him. ‘Don’t say that Grant.’
He looked at her with a concerned face. ‘I never thought Harding would do this to me. I knew he was power hungry but I never imagined he would attempt something like this.’ He sounded hurt and angry at the same time. I couldn’t imagine how he must feel right now, being betrayed by his own flesh and blood like that.
The praise wasn’t for me though so I wanted to rectify that immediately. ‘Actually it was my mate Mila who ushered me to coming here.’ I smiled at him and then turned to Mila and took her hand. The tingles and instant warmth filled my entire being. ‘Alpha Grant. This is my mate Mila Lowell.’
