It all started when I was a little girl. I was six years old when I moved to Mission Street. It was summer time. My parents wanted to live in a quiet neighborhood. It's funny really. Ironic too.
My name is Kailee Stagg. I met them at the age of seven. At first I was hesitant to talk to anybody. Everyone seemed strange to me. No one would have ever guessed that I would be the strange one. Mission Street does that to you. It changes you.
Mason Danielles was the strangest of them all. My parents sent me off to the park to make friends. All of the kids were running around playing games. But one boy stood out the most. His red hair seemed to pull me towards him that day.
He was playing a video game when I walked up to him. He blew a huge bubble and it popped.
"What do you want?" he asked, popping his gum again.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Mason Danielles. Is that all? I'm kind of busy."
"What are you doing?" He sighed, turned the game off, and spit his gum into a nearby trash can. He stared up at me with a look of pure annoyance. He put a new piece of gum into his mouth and started chewing.
"Look kid, I'm here on important business. You're bothering me. Get lost."
"You don't look busy. I'm Kailee Stagg. My parents sent me over here to find some friends."
"I'm not the friendly type now go away." I didn't move, "Look, I said leave." He shoved me onto the ground. I wiped myself off and shoved him back.
"That wasn't very nice," I said. He raised his eyebrow.
"How old are you kid?"
"I'm seven."
"You don't look seven. You look like a two year old."
"And how old are you?"
"I'm the same age, twerp. I was serious before. I've got important stuff to do and if you're here you'll only get hurt."
"Are you in trouble?" He sighed.
"I'm serious kid. Go a..."
"What's the matter?"
"Who's the girl Mason?" someone said from behind me. I turned around and five guys were staring down at me.
"She's just some random chick who won't leave me alone," Mason said with a shrug.
"Do you want us to get rid of her for you?" One of them pulled out a sharp blade. Mason pushed me aside and stood in front of me.
"No, she was just leaving." He sent me a look and I nodded and backed away.
"Aw, she doesn't have to go. She can join in with the fun." The guys started walking towards me. Mason sighed.
"It's always something," he mumbled. Mason pulled out a pack of gum and ripped away one of the wrappers. The gum wrapper revealed a box cutter. Mason held it out in front of him.
"Leave her alone," he said, "She's just an obnoxious girl."
"She knows too much," one of them said, "She could say something to someone."
"She doesn't know anything. Look, don't make me use this." They looked at his small blade and then nodded and put their weapons away.
"Fine Danielles," one of them said, "Next time, come alone." The guys left. Mason turned around and hit me on my head.
"Hey!" I whined.
"I told you to go away but no you had to stay," he said, walking towards a bench. He leaped onto it and sat down and pulled out his game, "That cost me some important info."
