Chapter Three: The Unknown World

Previously

"Stop! It's a trap! Run!" Kevin yelled.

But before it could sink in, lights were surrounding us, and a handful of guards had us surrounded, my eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness, and I could now see Kevin was handcuffed near the helicopter. What were we going to do!

I searched through the blazing lights to find Kathryn but I couldn't see her, I looked around as my heart throbbed.

"Kathryn!" I yelled out.

"Opal!"

Finally I heard her and when I saw her my heart sank, Mark had a guard either side of her and he was saying something to her in a harsh tone but I couldn't make out what he was saying.

"Opal! Don't worry about me, remember what I said."

I looked over at her, not believing this, she wanted me to just leave her behind with this evil mastermind.

I walked into the middle of the clear area that was surrounded by everything, suddenly my mind began to go into a trance like state, I couldn't understand what I was feeling, I could still see everyone normally but I felt like I was sleeping consciously, I look to Kathryn and try to yell out to her but nothing happens, I couldn't hear anything after a while, then this golden sparkling light began to fall from the sky, what was happening to me?

I looked at Kathryn again my eyes were filled with fear and I could see her mouth the words "Run, Opal, run."

The light started to go over me, Mark and all the guards were staring at me in awe when suddenly the light touched the ground and the ground started falling in, taking me along with it!

I was falling down at an incredible speed and yet I continued to stand and keep my balance. The light was incredibly bright and when I touched it I felt a hot sensation on my finger, it was like fire, but it was protecting me. I stared at the dirt wall that encircled me and watched it pass by, after a while the ground beneath came to a sudden stop and all the dirt above me filled in, I hadn't noticed until now but I think the tunnel had been filling in as fast as I was falling down.

I looked around myself in a panic, what had just happened? The ground suddenly stopped in a confined spot deep down in the ground, what the heck! Then, next thing I knew I was doing the exact same process only horizontally, where in earth was this taking me?

I had been on this circle of dirt for so long I was actually getting bored and kind of hungry, I sat down, pulled my legs up to my chest and leaned my head down. Just as I closed my eyes I was thrown forward into the light barrier and fell back onto the dirt, I jumped up rubbing my bruised head and looked around me. I saw a sparkling blue waterfall, fresh green grass, there were people! It was like an underground world! I went to step out of my light barrier, mesmerized by the beauty of this world when...

*Donk!

I was stopped by this light barrier, it was as hard as glass, I jumped back holding my nose.

"Ow!" I yelled out.

I looked up again and all these people were surrounding me, they seemed as interested in me as I was in them. I saw one of them speak but I couldn't hear what he said. Maybe this is a sound proof barrier as well! Crap!

I sat down and stared outside, the people were all so different, some had pale blue hair with white streaks, others had brown hair with green highlights not unlike mine, then there were ones with pure white hair, then there were the ones with silver hair with white streaks, they all had different coloured skin, some were as pale as snow and others were tanned or darker, but one thing all these people had in common were their eyes, every single one of them had the darkest brown eyes and this was the one thing I did not have in common, I have bright green eyes, so I am unique...is that good or bad?

I watched them all then one with pure white hair walked over to this big stone round table, it was covered in beautiful symbols and some sort of lettering that was in a different language, he spun the table around clockwise twice, then a golden glow illuminated from the center of the table, he reached over and picked something up. He started walking toward me, I could now see what he was holding, it was a golden glowing diamond, it was so beautiful! He came right up to the barrier then placed his hand against it, a panel formed on the light then he placed the diamond into it, I couldn't see much but it looked like it fitted. 

I looked up and all the light began to turn into a long ribbon setting me free of the dirt block, the diamond floated up with it all and the light raveled around it, it swirled around it at lightning speed then, poof! All the light was sucked into the diamond which then fell to the dirt floor. I quickly stepped off the dirt and stared at the people.

I lifted my hand, did a brief wave and said "Hi."

Everyone looked at me a little puzzled, oh no they can't understand me!

"Hello, I am Jedaika." A girl said, she had pale blue hair with white streaks and looked about my age.

Oh thank goodness they can speak English! 

"What is your name?" Jedaika asked me.

"Oh, um, Opal." I said, kind of stuck in my thoughts.

"Oh, Opal you say?" She gave me a questioning look then stood back, she was really caught in her thoughts now.

"Which land do you come from?" asked the man who had helped me out of the light barrier.

"Uh land? I guess the top one." I said, pointing up not sure what he meant by land, did he mean a country or a state, I am not entirely sure what a city looks like and I am also not sure what country I lived in.

The man gasped and stared at me then said, "But you are clearly a one who carries the power 'Terra Velocity', one of the many people beneath this earth, you have the colourings in your hair to prove it!" 

"Oh so that's what my power is! It's kind of a cool name but surely you could have come up with something a little more interesting? That basically says earth and speed which doesn't make total sense, oh wait, can I make earth go really fast when I lift it up? All I have ever been able to do is make it float or dig a little hole, not much else." I shrugged, then looked back at the man.

"You really are from the top, the way you talk, your lack of experience with your power! But how is this possible?"

"Well this light came over the top of me then whoosh I was falling down then horizontally then poof I was here, see possible. What's your name by the way?" I asked the older looking man, he had that wise look about him.

"I am Philicka, a healer and leader, I can heal anyone with any kind of power, it is a very rare power called 'Healisika' and those few who have it are made leaders of the village they were born in."

"Oh cool! Are you all gifted with powers?"

"Most of us, the few of us who aren't blessed with a power become workers, like cooks or cleaners."

"Oh and what do people with powers do?" I asked a little worried about the answer.
