Chapter 4
Jaz POV
I didn't entirely believe this kid but she was the only lead I had on Sang. The only lead on salvaging the reason for my existence.
I mean, if she really was Dr. Mishra's daughter, wouldn't I have seen her before? I regularly visited Dr. Mishra. She fixed me up whenever I needed it and I could rely on her to not call CPS. As a result, she was my and Sang's unofficial 'regular doctor'. We only ever saw another doctor if it was for school or, in my case, the kind of injury that couldn't wait. With the hazards of demigod life, an abusive mom and the increasing attacks at home there were plenty of injuries to go around and I spent a fair amount of time at Dr. Mishra's office. I should've run into this girl there if she was truly her daughter. At the same time, how many of Mr. Sorenson's clients had met HIS daughters?
Sang POV
I was excited. And scared. And worried.
I wanted to know how my power with stones and plants worked. What had the dark haired girl, Rose, called it? Guess I just got used to calling her the dark haired girl. Not the point, Sang! She called it manipulating earth? Yes, she did. I wanted to figure that out. After hiding my ability all these years, the chance of meeting more people who had it or something similar to it would be great.
A few minutes later...
I'm scared. Sure, I know Dr. Mishra but I've only met her with Jaz. Even my mother is good with Jaz. Jaz makes everything better.
A few minutes later...
Okay, I'm seriously worried now. WHERE ARE THEY? My mind starts running through catastrophes at a mile a minute. Mom got angry at seeing Rose and blew her up. They got attacked. They were kidnapped by aliens. Kicked in the head by a clumsy pegasus. Electrocuted by an elemental. Killed by an annoyed god.
The possibilities are endless and much MUCH nastier if you have an idea as to what's really out there. I think I know where the saying 'Ignorance is Bliss.' came from. It was from a time of rampant insanity. Who could stand to get out of their beds in the morning, knowing that they were at the bottom of such a long food chain? They would be driven into insanity by fear alone, that is, if Dionysius didn't do them in first.
Cait POV
Sang is just getting worse and worse. She's gonna worry herself into a panic attack at this rate. I start to worry myself, getting panicky. I'm not cut out for this! This is my first time dealing with someone's introduction to the Clan. Well, not the VERY first but the others had at least a parent in the Clan and had SOME idea of what it was about. Sang, apparently, didn't know a thing.
I decided to talk to her a little about what's out there. It would at least serve as a distraction. Or maybe I should just ask her about her worries.
"Hey Sang! Whatcha' worrying about?" The girl darts me a venomous look. "Worrying about Rose and Di.", she replies, "Don't you think they're taking a little too long?". "Guess so.", I replied, "Think they're getting us cupcakes?".
The girl explodes.
Metaphorically, of course.
All I can think is - And I thought she was quiet?
Sang's in my face; raging, yelling.
I catch a few words. Pegasi. Storm elemental. Gods. Dionysius. Karpoi. Laistrygonians.
OK, so this girl isn't completely clueless.
"You forgot the Ifrit. And the Strigoi.", I say jokingly, mentioning a few more of the monsters that populate our world. The world we hide from the rest of the world. From humans.
