"If only you were a dersite."
That was the last thing Karkat Vantas' love said as he left the kingdom of prospit. Since that day, the Knight couldn't keep his mind away from the visitor. Rather, prisoner now. Carted away for crossing the border without proper identification. He was taken away by the derse guards, as he was still a dersite citizen. His Knight was taken away that night. The blonde hair and red eyes he had fallen in love with, never to be seen again.
Karkat's sword fell slightly from his hands as his stance relaxed. His thoughts began to wander. In that moment, his foe kept at him, pinning him to the ground. "Stop!" The instructor called. His opponent got off from him, helping him up. The instructor, a veteran in the Knight force named Latula, walked over. "Serket, that was TOTES amazing!!" She shouted, patting the two on their backs. Vriska Serket was her name, sister to the royal librarian Aranea Serket. Vriska was never too interested in books like her sister was. She didn't want to read about dragons and sword fighting, she wanted to live it. It was when she was five she had that chance. Her mother ran away, after it being discovered she was the notorious bandit stealing from caravans and royals, Mindfang. So she took it on herself to find her.
Karkat let out a growl at the Serket's smug grin. "Gotta try better than that kaaaaaaaarkat~!" Vriska boasted, twirling the sword in her hand. Latula scowled at this, dismissing her to go back to the assembly. "Karkat, is there something wrong dude?" She placed a gloved hand on the smaller's shoulder. Karkat quickly shook it off. "Nothing! Just. Leave me the fuck alone!" The shouty boy shouted, stomped across the yard and out the gates with a slam of metal.
Across the streets the Knight in training ran. Tears begun to sprout like new buds on a branch. Finally, he reached an empty alley. Safety, well from public eyes. Karkat took a few deep breaths before falling to the ground. "Dammit." He muttered, slamming a fist into the stone ground.
"Why..." He sobbed, wiping his tears on his leather braces. "Why the fuck did I have to fall in love with him of all people..." He gasped. It's been only three days since his Knight was taken away. Karkat once contemplated breaking into the dersite prison. It may have been a bit extreme, but the dersite have a way of taking care of their own problems. And as long as the kingdoms were in peace, who would care which took which prisoner.
The Knight in training composed himself quickly, and stood up in the alleyway. He took a few more breaths and began to leave. "I'll just return to the barracks... They won't mind." He muttered, crossing his arms and leaving.
"Oi! Move athhhole!" A voice shouted from behind karkat. As the shouty teen turned around, he was met with a person slamming into him at a high speed for a person.
"Fuck! What the hell was that for?!" Karkat began to rant, rubbing his head as he sat on the ground. He looked to the stranger, receiving a better look. They wore a cloak, the Hood had fallen off, revealing their face. Their skin was slightly tanned, his eyes two different colors. Their hair was pitch black as well. He, as karkat has begun assuming now, let out a groan and blinked. "Thhit..." He mumbled, leaping to his feet. The dual eyed stranger glanced around before hopping into a nearby barrel. "I wath never here. " he simply said, pulling the lid over him.
"Hey! Wait-!" Karkat began to shout, before two soldiers turned into the alley. "You! You're that trainee!" One shouted, running closer. Karkat didn't respond, but simply leaned against the stone wall. The other soldier cleared his throat. "We're looking for a thief, wanted in both kingdoms for robbing nobles. A citizen saw him come in here." Karkat raised an eyebrow. "So? What the he'll do you want me to do about it?" He retorted. "Have you seen him?" The same one asked. "Nope. Just me. Just the same asshole who has always been here." The trainee answered, remaining to the wall.
The soldiers raised an eyebrow in suspicion, before turning and leaving, only saying what they've told everyone: to keep an eye out and report anything. Once they had left, karkat hit the barrel twice. Soon the thief had popped out.
"Huh. You dethided to thave me huh?" The thief rested his elbows on the edge of the barrel. Karkat growled. "Give me one good reason that was *such* a good idea?" "Well. I can be of thome uthe to you?" He smiled a rather toothy grin and tilted his head. "Yeah? Like how?" Karkat had his suspicions, but might as well humor the guy. "You want to go to derthe? I can get you over the border." Karkat clenched his jaw. "Who the fuck are you?" The thief mock bowed. "Tholluxander Captor, Thollux for thort, at your thervithe. You?" The Knight trainee rolled his eyes. "Karkat. Karkat Vantas." He murmered.
Sollux began to snicker. "What?" Karkat snapped. "Van'athh'" Karkat groaned. "Oh grow the FUCK up!" Sollux began to calm down. "Oh fine. You have thomewhere thatth thafer than here?" "Why yes I do 'Thollux'" Karkat mocked. The thief rolled his eyes. "Fine, I detherved that one."
Within an hour, the two found themselves at an old building near the edge of the kingdom. Sollux was subtly shocked at the state of the building. "Hey what's with that face? I'm not fucking rich okay? I can barely survive without the help from a friend!" Karkat began to rant. Sollux simply laughed and rolled his eyes before going in. The knight remained outside the building. This was it. He was going to see Dave again.
