A girl was crouching and crying under a tree.
Cassy, the second  daughter of the Havatti's has recently been claimed as an illegitimate child.  Sa mundo ng mga Havatti, there are no rooms for mistakes. Hence, Cassy in a day or two will be sent to her afformentioned "real" mother out of town : Marina Dirks.. anak ng magsasaka.

(Continuous sobbing from Cassy)
"Uy bata, pangit mo naman.. sip-on mo oh..tumutulo" James pointed out to Cassy

Now this was never a love at first sight kinda of story. Not for the both of them anyway. For James and Cassy, it always started with brutal honesty, fist fights and spits. But then again, in their world whom everyone was intent to walk on egg shells, they needed each other's brutal honesties.
"Sobra kana James!" Tulak ni Cassy at napaupo sa damo si James.
"Ano..sobra ng ka cute no..sabi ko na nga ba crush mo ako eh" sabay kindat sa kababata.
Lalo nalang umiyak si Cassy at di na pinansin ang kaibigan.
James hated seeing Cassy cry. He felt helpless and stupid. Because Cassy was always there. Thick and thin.. even when his family was killed and he, left alone. Cassy was always finding ways to make him smile. Yet, in this very moment where he feels everything she knows has been crushed and burned.. He has no idea how to make it okay for her.
James thought "how is it that you get to save me from my hell hole but I can't even make you stop crying"
"Wui tahan na bata. Di ba sabi mo dati pag sino iiyak ulit ng ganyan, malalagot sa atin."
"Sabihin mo, pano ko mapapawala ito..pano kita mapapaaaya ulit" patuloy pakikipag usap ni James kay Cassy
"Ibalik mo ako sa family ko! Ibalik mo pagmamahal ni mommy sa akin! Kombinsihin mo si lolo na mabait akong bata at gagawin ko lahat para proud sila.. just dont let them hide me away" simulang pag hagul-hol ni Cassy ulit.
"I want my family back James! Give them back for me please" pagmamakaawa ni Cassy.

This time James was already crying because he felt his best friend's anguish. After all, araw-araw kailangan nyang idilat ang mga mata nya sa reality na wala ang mga magulang nya.
"Cassy naman oh.. tahan ka muna. Di ako makapag isip ng mabuti pag iyak ka ng iyak" said as he held Cassy's hands.

How in the world will a 12 year old boy save his best friend from being shipped to who-knows where. He's the only Madrigal left after all. No connections. Only enemies lurking from everywhere. Even his only brother sided with the traitor. So how..how can he keep Cassy by his side.

"I know! Why dont you move in with me for a bit .. you could be a Madrigal so for sure they can't take you away from this home anymore"
Cassy stopped crying and just looked at James. It was the eerie kind of look and she smiled

"Oh James, if this is your version of a proposal, you SUCK" Cassy made a face at him
"Wow ha..choosy ka pa eh mabibiyak na ata tong ulo kosa kakaisip na di ka makuha nila!"
" but you keeping me here won't make any difference" Cassy yelled

How come? James grimaced
"James.. it wont exactly bring me back to MY family wont it" Cassy sadly said

And for the first time since James lost his parent.. he felt sad again and angry. Wasn't he part of her family. Didn't she once claim na "walang iwanan mokong". Doesnt she believe he can make her happy too.

"I see. So i was never a family to you Cassy."
"What.. wait no! Dont take it the wrong way.." pagtatanggol ni Cassy sa sarili.
"Shut up! All this time, it was a lie. You promised you wont leave me. You promised you'll BE HERE..By my side at ngayon YOU WONT EVEN LET ME HELP YOU!" Labis na pagsigaw ni James kay Cassy.

"It's not that James.. were only 12 yrs old for goodness sakes .. we want to be by our family's side no matter what so..wait No" And right then and there Cassy stepped on a mine hole.
   Yes she didnt believe in James plan because she needed her family to believe in her..to stay WITH HER and To love her despite her bloodline. Yet for James..how could she when all he has was her and her estranged brother. No..she didnt mean to say it like that but her words have already did its damage.

With a stoic expression and a haunting disappointment on James face, he said " Right, to be with family no matter what. Sucks for me isn't it.
"No james wait! " Cassy held his hand but he flicked it away. "I guess I was never enough huh" James gave a sad smile.
"I'm sorry I can't be family to you Cass. But you were mine"James gave me one last look and ran away.

Cassy couldnt believe how her day unfolded. She couldnt lose another one. Not again so she ran! She ran after James until she saw him and she screamed "you are! So stop right there and listen you Mokong!"

But of all demands Cassy wanted James to do so.. she wished this one fell on deaf ears because ..

"Ang bata! May sasakyan" a pedestrian screamed at the side
"James!!" Cassy screamed.
It all went inti one swift motion. James was hit by the cab and all Cassy could see was blood.
Right then and there she decided she no longer deserved to be a Havatti nor a friend of a Madrigal. Her existence she thought was "better left erased" Cassy whispered.
She ran to James after calling 9-1-1.
"James! Gising.. sorry na! Di na kita aawayin. Gising na..don't you dare go into any places where I can't reach you. Ako lang may karapatang mawala  dito kasi sakit nadudulot ko. So please wake up" Cassy pleaded

With bloody eyes James said "Stay. Just stay"
"Idiot. Then live" Cassy answered

"Al right" then James went unconscious as Cassy screamed for his life.

That day Cassy prayed for James to live. In exchange, she'll leave  her city without any complains.
"Please lolo.. di pa ma access ni James ang trustfund nya kasi 12 pa sya so please, fund his hospital bills. Please" pagmamakaawa ni Cassy.

"You got some nerve demanding this when you were the one who caused this in the 1st place!"
Masakit pakinggan ang mga salitang binitawan ng lolo ni Cassy but she knew she had to stand her ground

" if you'll help him then i'll go. I'll go away and act as if I never existed so please just HELP HIM" pag mamakaawa ni Cassy.

"Your a smart girl but just like your dad..an idiot when it comes to the heart. Panindigan mo ito Cassy. Once I sign James' papers for the financial backup..you make sure you're out of our life.

Cassy stepped back but put her chin up and said "opo"

That night Cassy slipped into James room and held his hands as long as she could
"Bata tahan na. WAg ka ng umiyak sa panaginip mo. You'll see. Maraming mag mamahal sayo habang wala ako. Your probably gonna hate me for this but i gotta do this for family right? You've always been family James. Sometimes more than I think you should, kasi crush kita eh." Cassy wiped her tears and tried to joke. "Grabe ka maka family zone ha.pero cge, paglalaban natin yan"
"Sa muling pagkikita James. Don't hate me too much..matampuhin ka pa naman" hinalikan ni Cassy si James sa noo and left.
Unknowingly to the two, Cassy's step sisters Elly, Crystal and Zade were witnesses to the whole good bye moment of the childhood friends.

Zade cried and said "and daya mo. Nag goodbye speech ka sa crush mo tapos kami wala..ang sama mo" pagtatampo ng kapatid

Elly held Zade's hand tightly and said " Cassy had no choice Zade.. you know how lolo is"

On the other hand, Crystal only went up to James and held his hand silently
"I wont leave you. I won't James" Crystal whispered and gripped his hand gently.

Circumstances are a force to behold. Strings are snapped and bonds are made. However, for James and Cassy, their circumstances lead them to be apart fot the next 5 yrs of their life.. living competely different worlds.
