4.Disturbances
Three words. Just three words from a complete stranger silenced all the people in the room.
Being the first to recover, Jace asked" What d'you mean; you dont know ?" She moved a little, looking uncomfortable with all the attention. "I mean, I don't know." she tried again. "It's... sort of blurred."
Jace wasn't one for patience, and it seemed like the beautiful antique tables weren't going to last long. " Try to remember, then!" he pressed.
Jordan put a hand on Jace's shoulder. "Hey man, calm down. The poison from the demon might have made her lose her memory. And you're not doing anything helpful by screaming at her."
Jace, knowing Jordan was right, calmed down enough to walk-or, more accurately, stomp- out of the room.
Clary walked over to the girl, and sat down beside her. "Don't worry about it. You're not the only amnesiac in the world." she said, trying to lighten the mood. "Besides, Jace is just frustrated about...... things, and he took it out on you. You're not on his personal hit list or something. "
The girl smiled, clearly glad to hear that she was not the intended target of the blond assassin.
That was the last straw. Simon couldn't take it anymore. It had been twelve days ago that he had got the first visit and he had been getting notes everyday reminding him that he didn't have much more time left.
Not enough to save everyone he loved. Not enough to even think about it. No.Not enough.
Now, to see his sister, Rebecca, fighting to be with him despite his constant reminders that she was not safe around him, he felt like a balloon which had been pricked.
No. He would no longer put her in danger. He had to make her understand one way or another that she had to accept for a fact that he wasn't coming back.
Which was the reason why he was sitting on the couch of his living room, waiting for her. "Becky" he muttered, practising his lines." Look, I'm tired of protecting you and mom. There's only so much I can do. It would be better for me if you'd let me go and" he choked on the words" -and for....forget me"
Just then, the door creaked open and he heard muffled footsteps come toward him. Something felt strange, though Simon couldn't put his finger on it.
Shrugging of his bad feelings, or intuitions, he got up. "Becky, I-"he stopped, horified at the face he was seeing. It wasn't his sister.No. It wasn't even a human. But he knew her. Oh, he knew her alright.
"Hello, Simon......miss me?" the blond said.
Maureen said.
Jace growled. He hated being out of things but he knew that glowering on that poor girl wouldn't help him. No. He had tried falling asleep, but he kept thinking of how much good it would do if he smacked the head of that Asian girl with a shovel. Yup. Pretty darn good. Her memory would be restored and he would be free of all his anger. Perfect solution.
But something told him that his friends wouldn't agree on it. Naw, they'll be far from agreeing... they'd be furious.
He was so deep in thoughts, lying on the bed,he didnt hear the door open and shut. He only realised that there was someone in his room with him when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"You know it isn't her fault right?" Clary started, but before she could finish, he reached up and pulled her down with him. His lips found hers, with frightening ferocity. It felt natural, completely normal, as their kiss deepened. His hands were knotted in her hair and her legs stradled his hips.
It was only after she moaned that Jace realised he was glowing.... glowing with heavenly fire. And he was hurting her. Hurting the only person who he had ever fallen in love with. The only person, who had more of his heart than he had himself. He was hurting Clary.
He pulled away. Her eyes were shining, and he knew that she was trying hard not to cry. Not for her benefit, but for him. She wouldn't make him feel guilty. She wouldn't.
