Karasuno : Aoba Josei

26:24

Oikawa looked at the scoreboard for one last time, but he still can't believe it.

He recalled how the ball just shot by his face, he clearly predicted correctly the path of the ball, yet, his body wasn't fast enough to react.

Indeed, the last relay was an extremely long one, the ball was passed from one court to the other continuously. Oikawa did his very best to get that score back, he even crashed into the benches, but still, he couldn't stop the weird duo's attack.

Oikawa hated himself for being so useless. So what if he got the looks, so what if he got the brains, the fact that he couldn't lead his team to the finals again was his failure as Seijoh's team captain.

"That was awesome!!" he heard from the other end of the court. Karasuno team were cheering for each other, all the smiles on their faces looked so disgusting to Oikawa, especially that rare grin from Kageyama.

He went close to the net where Kageyama was, and uttered, "Now we're at one loss, one win. Next time round, I'll surely beat you."

"I won't lose to you."

"We'll see."

With that, the both of them walked back to their respective teams. "Shit, what do I mean by 'next time'? There's no next time actually," Oikawa cursed before slapping his face until there are two red handprints on his cheeks.

As they gathered in a circle around their coaches, Oikawa clenched his fist tightly as reality hit him once again. Yes, they lost to Karasuno, they won the last time during the Inter-high prelims and why can't they do that again?

"Say what you want, but the results are what you see. There's no way your disappointment will subside," their coach spoke in a stern tone. Every word began to hit them hard, attacking their hearts mercilessly.

"With that in mind, let me just say something: You fought well."

Oikawa clearly made so many crucial mistakes during the last match, and if he were a better player, Karasuno might not gain that point and Seijoh might, might get to enter the finals. How are they considering 'fought well'? The setter couldn't really relate to that statement although it surely made the other guys emotional.

He looked at his teammates, they were already breaking into tears. Of course, they are all grown-ups and as guys, they shouldn't cry in public, especially when there's a whole bunch of supporters up there looking at them. However, the hurt and regret in their hearts were too great to conceal.

"Let's go greet the people in the stands," said the team captain.

Iwaizumi followed that instruction as he walked to the side of the court. He passed by that spot near the net and recalled the moment when Oikawa did a long toss to him. Oikawa entrusted him to make the last shot, as the ace of the team he was supposed to change the flow of the game and gain that crucial point for Seijoh, but he didn't.

As the ace, he didn't prove his worth.

As the ace, he didn't aid his team to victory.

He wasn't fit to be called the ace.

"How can I be the ace when I can't even make that?!?" Iwaizumi thought to himself angrily. He knew he could do much better, he knew if he wasn't that nervous he could have aimed for a spot with no one there, he knew if he trusted himself more he could have scored much much more.

Gritting his teeth tightly, tears began to flow uncontrollably. He was so mad at himself for not performing up to expectations. He was so mad to have lost to Karasuno.
