I woke up way too early. I just couldn't sleep. I looked at the time on my phone and it was 6:15 a.m. Falling back asleep wasn't working so I got up. I brushed my teeth, changed into a black jeans and green t-shirt and went downstairs to get some breakfast. To my surprise I saw my mother in the kitchen eating cereal.
"You're up early", she said with a mouth full of food.
"So are you", I said.
"Want me to make you some breakfast?"
"No, I'll just have some cereal". I took a bowl out of the cabinet and filled it with cereal and milk. We sat there for about 10 minutes without talking. Me eating my food and mom staring into her now empty bowl.
"I'm going to a concert today", I said as I stood up to put the bowl in the dishwasher.
"That's fun. Who's playing?"
"A friend's band"
"The friend I saw outside?"
"Yeah"
"Will I ever know his name?"
"Tristan, Tristan Rogers", I said.
"I used to date a guy named Tristan"
"Thanks mom for ruining the way I'll look at Tristan forever"
"How have you been looking at him until now?"
"Like a friend. Not like the guy who screwed my mother"
"Hey! I was a virgin when I got married!"
"Yeah right, I'm a virgin too", I said and pointed at my belly. She laughed.
"You never told me about it", she said.
"About what?"
"Your first time"
"Why should I?"
"I don't know, I thought it might be an experience you would like to share with you mother"
"Mom, that's the last thing I want to share"
"Was is with James or Andy?"
"I don't want to tell you"
"Dylan, please. I feel like I've lost you. I want to get to know my daughter again"
I sighed and sat down. I told her everything about it. The conversation James and I had before, the Eminem concert, the hotel room, how it felt,...
The entire time she had this huge smile on her face.
"Mom, stop smiling like that. It's creepy"
"I'm sorry honey, but I love listening to you"
"Weirdo"
"And proud", she said and we both laughed.
"What are you two doing up at 8 o'clock in the morning?", my dad said as he walked in the kitchen.
"8?", my mom and I said at the same time. Apparently we had been talking for almost 2 hours.
I went back upstairs to check my Facebook and my phone.
The first thing I saw was a status saying: "Andrew Brooks and Lily Newman are in a relationship". I smiled. I was happy that Andy found someone.
I unlocked my phone and saw I got a text message from Tristan:
"Hey beautiful, just a reminder that the show is at 7 tonight. Come a bit earlier so that I can see you". I smiled at my phone. Tristan is so sweet.
