Another day at the office, early mornings, long nights, I'm sick of it. I sit at my desk and a few sheets remain from the previous day. No doubt my boss will ask me to type another hundred sheets into the system. And bring him 4 coffees, 1 latte and an excuse for why I 'have only done 98 sheets'. I'm basically the typical dull office employee with no life, no social status and the odd tumbleweed rolling through my love life. My relationships never last and by the looks of it, I'm that old cat lady who dies alone, not including the seventy cats I'll own. My life is a continuous loop of that one sad scene in every movie. Just...sad. And dull.

Anyway, the fact is, I hate my life, and it was only going to get worse. My colleagues hate me, my boss hates me and my pets are sympathetic. Pets. As in, I-don't-have-anyone-to-share-my-problems-with-so-I'll-tell-my-dog-and-cat pets. I was a smart kid, but I never got opportunities. A nerd but all the doors were closed. Wait...what? It's 6 AM and no pile on my desk that slightly resembles the leaning tower of Pisa. Is the boss ill? I'm not sure. Suddenly the boss's secretary walks through from the boss's office to my desk.

"Eve?" He calls.

"Um, yes? What is it?" I ask. He gestures towards the boss's office.

"Go. Now. It's urgent," He proceeds to walk back to the door of the office and I follow. "Go in."

I walk through the door and tug on my collar. I'm sweating profusely but unnoticeably. The boss waves his hand by the chair opposite him, just in front of his desk and I sit down. "Y-yes, sir? You...um, called for me?"

"You're fired."

"What? I...I can't be! I did nothing wrong! Is this a joke?" I panic internally as we both know I don't have enough qualifications for a better job, good GCSE's or not, I wasn't social enough and couldn't hold a conversation. My conversations held the case of 'blink and you miss it'. But it was no joke. He was totally, utterly,

Serious.
