Rial laid there, silently snoring away as the sun came up. For all of his seriousness about his job, he was pretty lazy. I slowly, quietly crept up behind him, he was right, the rushing water did mask my movements. One took in a deep inhale and . . .

"Don't even think it Aether," I let out the air out as if I was just going to yawn.

"I was just making sure you were awake that was all," I lied. He got up looking annoyed and tired.

"Couldn't sleep?" I asked.

"No, same voice, he said nine days," he hung his head. For as long as I could remember him, Rial had never been afraid of anything. But now, even in his calm state, I saw fear in his bleak eyes. That dream that haunted him since the night before last was causing him to be . . . unnerved. He looked around and decided it was safe before making his way out of the hiding place we found and onto the path.

"Come on, let's get there before someone can find us," he said and waited as I tried to get up, and failed miserably. Rial chuckled, rolled his eyes, and came down.

"Here, let me help, jump up" I did and as soon as I had made the movement he put his head under me to push me up.

"You like what you see down there?" I asked laughing.

"I could leave your heavy ass down here you know," he replied through grit teeth. I laughed some more as I was pushed up onto the land once more, Rial climbing just moments afterward.

"Alright, time to move," Rial told me. And we were off. The sights and sounds of the wild filling our senses. We were close by the time we stopped to rest, so it came as no surprise to me when we got out to the grassy hills overlooking the Southern Pack. It was top security with little openings, those butterflies started coming back now.

"So . . . what do we do now?" I asked. Rial looked over the whole area, his bleak eyes full of commitment and dedication. He searched quietly, trying to find a weak point, any weak point.

"I'm not seeing anywhere where guards aren't present," I lowered my head in disappointment. I was afraid of that.

"However, there does seem does be a place where there is little action taking place,"

"Where?" I asked suddenly excited again.

"The southern gate," I responded.

"Well I guess that makes since. Death is the southernmost pack so it shouldn't have to worry what's to its south,"

"Just like us, now come on, let's get that info and get out of here," we slowly creeped toward the back of their pack where the least amount of guards were. I needed Rial to take them out so we could head in, but of course, I was supposed to help too.

"Hey boys," I said trying to stay as casual as possible despite my knocking knees. The two guards turned and stared with angry eyes dead into my soul.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" One barked.

"Stay Cool girl, just a bit longer," I told myself. I walked forward a bit more and put on a sly grin.

"Let's not worry about that hun. You seem tense, I can fix that for you if you'd like~" The one who looked at me was still not amused, the younger one right next to him however, looked left and coughed. I just needed to get both their attention. I turned to the other guard and rubbed my head under his neck.

"What do you say handsome?" I cooed.

"Rial this better work,"

"Umm . . . uhh," He stuttered. Then I got the opportunity I was looking for.

"Ux! You have an important job to do! Stop meddling with  the likes of that whore and . . ." Rial jumped from seemingly nowhere and bit into the back of his neck, he'd live. Rial stood menacingly in front of the one called "Ux" and flinched in his direction. This resulted in him running away hysterically screaming like a maniac.

"Damn dude," I said looking at the twitching body of the guard in front of me. Rial looked to the side.

"I only kill when I have to," he explained.

"Well, not much could be said for him. But the kid was kinda cute, in a funny way," I chuckled. Rial smiled and rolled his eyes. He dipped into the ground and went past the tree opening they were guarding.

It was mid-day and still no one was looking for us, so the kid never told for one, and two the guard was either dead or still unconscious. And no switch outs? Odd. Rial and I found a spot to spy on the counsil relatively easy. Rial seemed tense and focused, he was on a mission and was ready for anything. I thought about what he said yesterday, the voice, the strange dream. And then yesterday, I could pretend it wasn't odd. However, those thoughts lead me to the other event that happened yesterday. We hadn't rough housed like that since we were kids, and now it was clear why. It was very clear that Rial had at least some feelings for me, which I took great pride in and made every effort to tease him about without him knowing I knew. But yesterday was . . . different. When I tried to comfort him it was sincere, it was with love. I snapped out of my thoughts and quickly turned my attention back to the council.

"This war will happen whether we start it or not. It's best if we know what we are up against," One of the stronger, younger ones said. He seemed new to the council, like a veteran fresh from war time. The others looked around and whispered.

"We think this is foolishness Councilor, but if you believe we have the right forces . . . "

"What are you saying?! You agree with this-this madness?!" Another shouted. He was then pummeled to the ground by the youngest and brutally murdered. His stomach was ripped open and all his inner workings had been spilled onto the ground. The place was silent. The councilors teeth were bared and showed off the blood of his kill. He crouched, ready to pounce.

"Any other objections?" he growled. The others shook in fear, all of them were old, and weak. Either way, this war was happening, whether they liked it or not. One of them stepped forward and cleared there throat.

"When will this war start Councilor Wendur?" He grinned.

"Five days from now,"

We had just made it out and found a good hiding spot when afternoon hit. We were covered by the trees of the forest so no one could see us move around, as long as we were quiet, we would be fine. Rial hunted, we ate(I mostly did the eating), and I thought about what just happened. But no matter how hard I tried I couldn't help but think back to Rial. He seemed, tired. Ready for all of this to end. I felt bad for him, being plagued by these nightmares he didn't understand, it made him a bit on edge. Then there was yesterday when we were so close, it seemed as if time stood still. Then I just had to ruin it with my big mouth . . . what was I thinking? Rial was nothing more than my friend, still . . .

"Something on your mind?" He asked. I shot up and I'm sure my eyes bulged out of my head.

"N-No," I stuttered. I rolled his eyes and set his head down.

"We've got to get a move on, let's finish up here," he said. We got up and started to head out of the forest and continued toward our own pack.
