Levy rereads the letter for what feels like the hundredth time that morning. She sits in her favorite big brown chair in her library. Gajeel's chair, despite him not being an avid reader, sits empty next to her. He is not in the house, nor in Magnolia, nor anywhere in Fiore. He's overseas at war.

Levy begged him not to leave. She told him he could just pay the fine, and that they could find the money somehow. Gajeel refused to let that happen, however.

"We're broke, and if I sign up then the money will go to you. I can't let my little lady starve, now can I?" Gajeel whispered into her hair at their tearful goodbye. "Besides, I'll feel much better knowing that those bastards can't touch you."

"I'll feel sick to my stomach knowing you could die at any moment," Levy wailed into his chest. She should have wiped the tears from her eyes, but she refused to let go. She wanted to feel his warmth as much as possible before he leaves. "What about my feelings, Gajeel?"

Gajeel pulls away and rests his hands on her shoulders. "Shrimp, you don't have to worry about me. I'm practically made of iron, so I'm not gonna leave you anytime soon. Just you wait, I have a surprise planned when I come back."

     Levy sniffs. "Promise?"

     "Promise."

That promise was made two years ago. Gajeel writes her once a week, and if for some reason he has to miss a letter, a buddy always sends one so she won't panic. Every time Levy receives a new letter, she reads it for at least a half hour before continuing on with her day. But the problem is, Levy's been getting letters from Gajeel's buddies for weeks now. Four, to be exact. Which greatly concerns Levy, but they can't tell her anything about where he really is. Top secret, apparently.

"You promised me," Levy whispers at Gajeel's chair. "You get to come home in three weeks, don't you dare break it now." She feels tears comes to her eyes, but she can't be bothered to wipe at them. She's been wiping at tears for years now, and it's starting to get really old. She just wants Gajeel to come back so they can finally live together again.

Lily saunters into the room and intertwines with her legs. He rubs the side of his head against her leg, signifying that she is still his. Levy smiles, picks him up, and gives him a kiss. She scratches behind his ears and gives him another big kiss on the head. Lily hates when anybody else does this, but he loves when she does it. He purrs and settles into her lap. Levy strokes his soft fur. She adopted him about a year and half ago so she could have some company in the empty house. It was rather small, it only had one bedroom, bathroom, and the family room was practically inside the kitchen. Her personal library was really just a corner of the bedroom with books lining the walls. But it all felt like a mansion without Gajeel's big presence.

"You're gonna love him, Lily. Gajeel's the greatest person I know. Some people think he's big and scary looking, and he can be, but only if you make him angry. Unless you're me. Gajeel is the biggest teddy bear when it comes to me. He treats me like a princess, despite our poverty. Well, with Gajeel's service money I could afford a new house, but I don't want a bigger house. This one is big enough. When Gajeel comes back, we'll probably get a bigger one. But for now, I'm saving as much money as I can," Levy explains to her cat. Lily purrs and pretends to listen, even though he can't actually understand her human gibberish.

Levy sighs. She allows her tears to flow one at a time down her soft pale cheeks. "I miss him so much, Lil," she whispers. "I haven't heard from him in a month, I just want to know that he's okay." She begins to cry, at which point Lily decides to take action. He knows that her tears aren't good, her entire vibe becomes extremely negative when she leaks water from her eyes. He licks it away and nuzzles her cheek with his nose.

"Thanks, Lily," Levy says while she wipes at her tears. "I can't wait until he comes back," she says. She turns to look at Gajeel's empty chair, trying to suppress the heartache in her chest.

Hello, everybody! Sorry this is so late, I've been really busy with other pieces of work. Oh well. Happy Gajevy Week Day 2!
