When All The Leaves Fall

I Don't Need You To Stand Up For Me.

Lukas looked up at me, his eyebrow raised. "So... What?", he asked,"This is gonna be awkward." "Yeah.", I replied. Mr. Loskey stepped to the front of the room and everyone, including Lukas, scrambled to their seats. "Ok, so I will have days designated for this project", he started,"but most of this project is to be done out of class." I look over at
Lukas and he imitated shooting himself. I smiled and looked to the front again. "Now pull out your copies of Hamlet and read through them.", Mr. Loskey instructed. As I pulled out my copy, I noticed Lukas scribbling something on a piece of paper. He folded it up and put it in his pocket. I read through Hamlet until the end of class. After the bell rings, I started to head over to band. I stopped by my locker to grab my music when I was stopped by Harris Connley, the guy with the biggest ego ever. "So... You hooking up with Lukas now?", he asked. I ignored him and continued to look for my music. "Cause the thing is", he started,"he's kinda out your league." I sighed and slammed my locker. "No. I'm not hooking up with him." I turned and started to walk to the band hall. He grabbed my arm and jerked me toward him. "Well sorry to break it to you, babe, but no one wants a damaged little goth girl." Suddenly, another hand was on his arm and was pushing Harris away. "Maybe you should shut the hell up!", Lukas yelled as he pushed Harris into the lockers. I pulled Lukas off of Harris. I turned him until he is facing me. "I don't need you to stand up for me!", I yelled at Lukas. I turned and walked to the band hall. I don't need anyone to stand up for me.

I didn't see him for the rest of the day. Finally, the bell rang, signaling the end of the day. I walked to the bus and got in my usual seat. I got on my phone until I felt Lukas sit down beside me. I put my phone up and stared at the seat in front of me. He turned, slowly, to face me. "I'm sorry I interfered today.", he said. I turn to him. "You're forgiven.", I said. "But just know", he started,"If you ever need me, I will be there. Whether you want me or not."
