G R A Y –
We were wizards studying how to be cupids. Using our abilities to bring humans together. Every day we take courses on Cupidry and other subjects to also keep us in balance and using our skills for the sake of others. I wonder if we weren't cupids, if we didn't care about humans, if we were psychopaths. Or maybe just jerks who didn't care about caring.
I was scratching my clipboard of matches when I saw that one of the hearts broke on my tablet. I looked at it, deep in thought. I felt my mind occupied and my head started to spin. I put my clipboard back in the drawer. It was too late, the sun has already risen.
In a matter of seconds, almost the whole Guild was in my dorm room. I flinched at the thought of anyone else seeing the broken match. Natsu, my roommate finally stopped snoring and got up in a dead manner. There was no sign of life on him.
"Good morning Master Makarov." I got up and bowed quickly at the sight of my Master.
"No need, apprentice Gray." He patted my left shoulder and motioned me to sit. "Happy two hundred and fifth birthday." I looked down as I felt the pressure. Part of me wanted to correct him, two more days. "We want to celebrate with you at a ceremony later. If it isn't too much of a bother."
"Why him? Yesterday you argued that I shouldn't have a birthday celebration because they are completely unnecessary." Natsu walked up from behind him.
"Because he is a very responsible and honorable ice wizard." Lucy batted her eyes and sort of winked.
Oh god, I hated them. They were the closest in our Guild, but they were very opposite.
Natsu basically hated my guts and Lucy wanted to hug the life out of me. It was a constant battle of emotional confusion.
"oh humblest of wizards." Lucy continued.
Natsu rolled his eyes. I looked back at our Master and noticed he was sleeping while standing.
"Master Makarov?" I called to him. He almost immediately opened his eyes. Lately he has been very busy with meetings with the school board and advising new students, so I couldn't blame him.
"I'm sorry, I'm just getting old these days." He laughed it off.
I smiled to show some respect, but was still a bit weirded out.
"Well what are you waiting for we have a ceremony to get to."
I followed them out of the dorm room and saw that everyone was celebrating.
"What's good, Master Makarov?" Gajeel, my dearest friend, shouted from across the room.
He wasn't really into the whole 'respect' thing.
"He must've learned it from the humans." Natsu shrugged.
"Everyone has a different reaction to them. I mean look at me, I could never be phased by a human." I bragged.
"Me too." Lucy added, winking at me.
"Love is only for humans." Natsu shook his head.
"You can't be changed by anyone, but someone could be a reason you've changed." Master Makarov scared us half to death as he popped up from behind us.
Sometimes I feel like he was a human before. He has so many references to the human world. Once, he was giving us a lecture about humans and he kept "accidentally" saying "we" instead of "they". I don't find it suspicious, I just get curious.
"hey Gray." Gajeel waved at me. "I heard the great news. Congrats."
I nodded and walked up to him. "What good news?"
"Just a rumor, but I heard you got lead matches in your Guild." He said, almost in a whisper. Natsu frowned as he heard this and folded his arms.
"I did?" I asked. Soon enough I started stressing about that heart I lost earlier. "Don't act so innocent! You over achiever." He smirked.
"Seriously. What did you think the ceremony is for?"
"I don't know." I hesitated.
As we walked over, I saw many Wizards of different Guilds around the room and suddenly the room was shrinking.
The scary thing was that I couldn't find master Makarov anywhere. Usually he was obvious to spot due to his abnormal height.
"Okay, wizards of Rational Guild, we are to welcome our guests of today." I heard master Makarov's telepathy, with his voice stronger than ever.
"Today is an honorable day, we are proud to announce that the Guilds will be participating in the Grand Wizard games." He said, using his hands in a very gesticulate way.
"We will be picking two wizards from each Guild and we will be sending them to the human world to understand what love means for the humans and not fall in it. If they are the first to find their way back, they will be crowned next for the throne of the master."
Why would anyone want to be human? Or even understand them?
"This is how we are choosing the next generation of Masters in training for the Guild. The wizards that were chosen will get signaled later on."
"Master Aphrodite told me she's been begging the old man to partner up with her for centuries, why the sudden change of mind?" Natsu rolled his eyes.
We all listened as Master finished his speech with incertitude. "Um... well. That's... wait, what was I talking about?" he awkwardly finished and walked off the stage. Everyone cheered. Some even whistled and howled. Most of all, the wizards started talking with each other, in fear of being chosen.
By the time the other Guilds were leaving, we were all silent. I guess we were the only Guild that didn't see it coming.
"Well see you later, Gray." Gajeel left the door as if it was his destiny. I don't even really know why he always left in such a hurry. I shrugged it off and walked back to my dorm room and thought about my next match. or my last one...
