(not) becoming captain

Living up to her sisters standards was a dream.

They all told her she would. When the teacher came out on the stage, about to announce the names, her smile grew further and further. Trying to be humble, she told the people sitting around her she wasn't going to get it, yet she knew she had a chance, and a big chance at that.

Who else would get the opportunity? How did they pick who was captain anyway, without being mean to the others? Maybe they didn't pick her, no, she mustn't have any negative thoughts.

It started with a a powerpoint. Each kid made one, and they did an interview as well. Nothing scary, she actually felt like she did well. She came up with it, while also copying her sisters, and she loved how everything worked. To make the presentation better, she needed a picture, it was herself jumping on her trampoline.

All of her friends hated their interviews, and were extremely nervous. She loved her interview and was extremely confident. As the days went on, she would think about herself being captain. However, she never did think that maybe, just maybe, it might not be her.

Her teacher did discus with her, about helping out with the assemblies instead. Does that mean she wasn't picked for captain? No, he was definitely just saying that to make sure she knew what she would have to do as captain of the primary school.

Names poured out, one after the other. Names to be captains for the factions. First came red, and it was a close friend of hers. Next it was her house, and nerves floated. Her 'boyfriends' name was called as she cheered. This means she has to get the school captain. Then was blue, not a bad choice for captain, and green was last.

Then it was the boy and the girl captain left. His name was called first, and she was overly happy for him. Fingers crossed ever so tightly, her fiends kept telling her it was going to be her name. The teacher came close to the microphone as they took a breath in. But her name, the one she was hoping to hear, wasn't called out.

After sudden doubt, she then thought about the vice captains. Then she would have a chance, then it struck. They weren't doing vice captains that year, she just forgot.

Struggling to not cry, her teacher came up to her and started talking, about why he didn't pick her. Never did she stop herself from crying, she could tell he felt extremely bad. But she had to stop crying before the people came off stage, since her best friend was the one that got to be captain.

It was only a dream she had, to be like her sister, and it was an unreachable dream.
