Meeting Him
It was around winter when he first met the boy.
Snow falling softly. The colour white mixing with all other. At the bay of the beach. There stood a young man with dark hair and gray eyes. Two of his distinguishing features are his cross-shaped tattoo on his forehead which was covered with a banded and a pair of orb-shaped earrings. He stood there watching the sun set.
The boy's looks were breath-taking.
He watched with an unwavering gaze, as a fiery red orb of light slowly sank beneath the horizon, and threads of light lingered in the sky, mingling with the rolling clouds, dyeing the heavens first orange, then red, then dark blue, until all that was left of the sunset was a chalky mauve, and then that melted away in turn as stygian darkness took over the sky.
Sequin-silver stars like the glowing embers of a dying fire winked down at him, illuminating the atramentous curtain of the sky, and then suddenly the clouds parted and he found himself looking at a lustrous, argent disc casting brilliant rays of moonlight onto the dark grounds...
He sighed. He seriously didn't have the time to be admiring the sunset. He had to get to work before his manager kills him.
Turning away he started off to his destination. After a 10 minute walk, he arrived at his stop which was a hospital, also known as the Mental Hunter Association. It was a hospital for mentally sick people. Though mostly it was filled with a bunch of weird people, who have nothing better to do in life.
Straightening his black tie, he took a deep breath and walked through the sliding doors only to be greeted by his manager, Pakunoda. "Boss, where were you? Do you know how late it is? You made the other doctor wait for 2 whole hours!!!" she half-questioned/half-yelled, frustrated.
"Sorry, Paku. I was busy and had to take a detour here." the man apologised calmly. "Huh?! But what about your car?" Pakunoda asked. "Well the driver was on a holiday so I decided to walk and watch the sunset while I was at it." he simply stated.
Paku mentally sighed, no matter how many times she told or protested, his habit of coming late never changes. Paku turned and led him through the halls. The inside of the hospital was better looking then the outside. The walls were painted in different light and dark tones and set to match the white floor tiles. The waiting seats were also of different colours, some dark and some light coloured just to match the wall. Beautiful painting of different theme and time were hung. The place looked more like a hotel then a mental hospital. But the only thing not beautiful about the place was the lack of silence.
Whether you look left or right the sound of people doesn't end. Children crying, nurses and doctors running around, visitors and patients chatting etc. All this noise made him miss the silence that he enjoyed at the beach.
After walking to god-knows-where. They had come to stop in front of deep black-brown coloured door with a hint of envy to it. A white plate with golden outlines hung to the door stating 'Head Administrator'.
Paku knocked three time on the door. They waited for a while until it was opened by a bean-like man. He was wearing a black tuxedo and his whole person looked green. "Welcome!" he greeted. He opened the door wider, to let both of them in. Entering, they were both greeted by an healthy looking, old man. "Welcome! Welcome! you must be the new doctor!" the old man said excitedly. "Good evening sir. Yes, this is the new doctor, Chrollo Lucifer, at your service." Paku stated gesturing at the man now known as Chrollo. The old man nodded and requested them to take a seat.
"Well then, I'm Isaac Netero." the old man introduced himself.
"I'm the chairman or head admin of this hospital," he continued. "Now. Let me just get straight to the point. I know you are a self-working doctor and that you don't work just for anyone, but I would very much like your help with one of my patient's." he stated seriously. Chrollo nodded, showing Netero that he had his full attention.
"This patient has stayed with us for about three years but, all the 24 doctors have failed to cure the boy." Netero said. He doesn't seem to open up much as well". Netero then, handed Paku a file. Opening it, she read out the patient's name and details.
"Patient Name: Kurapika
Status: Unknown
Born: 4th April
Sex: Male
Blood Type: AB
Age: 17
Height: 171 cm (5'7")
Weight: 59 kg (129.8 lbs)
Appearance: Kurapika has medium blond hair with brown eyes, wears a single, drop earring ornamented with a ruby in his left ear.
Physical Status: Blind
Mental Status: Normal"
The first page stated a few facts about the patient with a small picture of the patient attached to the side. Not bothering to read all the pages (since Chroll0 has to read them later anyway), Paku checked which room the patient belonged to.
" Patient Room No: 287 "
"Is there anything else wrong with this patient?" Chrollo asked.
"Yes, he always seems to be spacing out and he doesn't reply to the question asked by the doctors. Even if he has a problem or needs something, he never asks the appointed doctor and He eats very less as well."
"Where are his parents?" he asked.
"We don't know about that. He never open's up to us. Never have we heard him talk about his personal life."
"Does he have any relatives?"
"No idea..."
Silance... Pure silence fell upon the room. You could cut the tension with the knife.
"Ok!" Chrollo suddenly announced. "I shall take care of this patient," he said. Netero sighed in relief and handed the patient file to Chrollo. "Then please send me all his details, habits, medicines he takes, everything about him, I'll have a thorough check up on him after I read them," Chrollo said getting up from his seat.
Netero nodded and told the bean-like man to start arranging everything. "For now! Let me just have a brief meeting with him." Chrollo said as he and Paku were leaving the room. "Ah! yes. Please wait in the hall and I'll send one of my men to be your guide" Netero says in a hurry.
Chrollo only gives a side glance and leaves. Netero falls back on his seat in relief. "I hope this time we can do something to help that boy.." he says to himself as Beans nodded.
Meanwhile, Paku and Chrollo were in the waiting room. Paku was busy talking and making arrangements for Chrollo. While he was sitting and thinking of ideas of how to handle his new future patient. He always enjoyed meeting ew people. Especially with mental cases. Wondering how they will react next was entertaining for him. But then soon their behavior becomes boring.
He becomes used to how they behave. So he never had much fun. But this time it should be interesting for him. This unusual case of a blind, un-talkative kid shall entertain him for a while. Let's see how long this new playmate of his lasts, shall we?
