"Sit down darling." Grandma exclaimed from the kitchen, looking nervous.

She came over an hour ago with a suitcase in her hand.
I questioned her for the reason to her arrival but didn't get a proper answer, as if she was hiding something from me.
I walked towards the kitchen, following her steps that disappeared seconds ago, determined to get an answer now.

I watched her as she filled a glass of water.

"I thought I asked you to sit down." She said as she turned around, surprised to see me standing there instead.

"And I thought I asked you something as well." I knocked my foot on the floor nervously, not caring about my impolite tone.

She sighed. "Come darling." She held my palm in hers and lead us both to the living room, placing the glass on the coffee table, signing me to sit down.

I rolled my eyes and did as she asked. Whatever to make her talk finally.

"Why are you here grandma?" I broke the silence that encompassed the room.

She looked at every object in the room but me, still looking nervous.

"Just tell me!" I almost yelled, annoyed by this suspenseful situation.

"Baby.." She walked to the couch I sat on and took a place next to me, only to have our palms combined again. "I want you to know that it's okay to cry, it's okay to scream, to feel confused. What I'm about to tell-"

"Oh just say it!" I pushed her.

"Remember how mom and dad left a couple of hours ago?"

I nodded, my heart racing to the thought that something might have happened to them, that they're the reason for grandma's mumbling.

"I'm sorry baby." She burst into tears.

I felt confused. "Why are you sorry grandma?"

She sobbed, not saying a thing.

"What happened to mom?!" Tears streamed down now. "Answer me!" I yelled, not being able to contain it.

Mom and dad are okay. She's crying over something else.
I took out my phone from my pocket and dialed mom's number. I'll show grandma she's just being paranoid.

Hi, you've reached Annie's phone. To leave a message please record after the beep.

There was no answer.
My heart raced faster, terrified by the thought I'll never see her again. Them again.

I tried to reach my dad, knowing that my mom always has her phone on silent.

It reached the voicemail as well.
Jake here. For urgent matters leave a text message instead. If not available try 555-378.

Beep.

I felt like the room was closing on me.
Grandma was still crying, not being able to get a word out.
I needed answers and I needed them now.
