Our breaths mingled. Hot air circulating between us. Our hands were almost touching, I longed to grab her tiny hand in mine but my common sense kicked in. A tendril  of her hair fell over her green eyes. Before I could resist, I reached out my hand and tucked the hair behind her ear. Her eyes widened and a bewildered look escaped them.

"Sorry". I whispered pulling my hand back down beside me. "It's alright." She whispered. A long pause followed where she seemed to be gathering her thoughts before she started talking again.

"Listen Andy we've been friends for a long time now, I know you really well and I can tell you anything. But, I... I like you. I mean you don't have to like me back or whatever. I just thought you might want to know." She continued rambling on and words spilled out of her mouth. I wanted to kiss her and hold her. I wanted her to know how I really felt.

Without thinking too much about it, I leaned in close to her. I bowed my head down so our noses were pressed together. She didn't push me away, but didn't pull me in too quickly either. I wrapped my arms around her thin frame. We held our stance like that for a few moments. Where our eyelashes almost touched every time we blinked, we were so close. Her lips were so close. I brushed my lips against hers lightly, and pulled away. She threw her arms around my neck and pulled me back and  kissed me. Properly kissed me. Sparks flew threw my veins. My legs went weak.

Time slowed down and I enjoyed this moment. She liked me. She pulled away slightly and breathed out a sigh. She took a step back and folded her arms with an embarrassed look on her face. "Sorry." she laughed. "It's OK that was kinda my fault." I responded. The moments that followed were pretty awkward. It was well past nine by now and the dark had really set in. My mind was in such a hazy state I didn't notice the van driving quickly towards us until it was almost right beside us. It came to a slow halt and water flew up as it skidded on the wet stoney roadway.

I shot Morgan a confused glance as the side door of the truck slid open revealing two well built gun bearing men. The truck had an odd symbol on it. I hadn't seen it before. The lights of the truck stung my irises making them bulge. I raised my hand to shield my eyes from the blinding lights. The men approached quickly. Their pace got faster. "Can we help you sir?" Morgan croaked. Even at the worst of times she never forgot her manners that was one of the things I adored about her. The men didn't answer, they ran up toward Morgan. One went behind her back. We were cornered.

"Shhhhhh!" One of the men whispered placing his hand around Morgan's mouth. His hand almost covered her entire face. "Hey, get off me!" She screamed. Her limbs started to flail around in the air as the men lifted her high off the ground. "Stop it! What are you doing to her?" I shouted trying to land a punch on one of the men. The first man turned to me and simply said "50, for now." "What does that mean?" I shouted again trying to loosen their grip on her. The men held her waist, where I had held her just moments earlier. Morgan kept fighting. One of the men let go of her and instead approached me. He punched me hard in the jaw and blood and saliva flew out of my mouth. "Andy!" Morgan screamed. It was high pitched and helpless. Tears rolled down her face. The man didn't stop there. He came at me again kneeing me in the stomach and punching my a few more times. I was reduced to my knees. They hit the ground with force. Morgan had managed to free herself just as I fell. She ran towards me. The man grabbed hold of her again.

What happened next I will regret until I die. The man raised his hand above her head. He waited to just long enough so she could shriek when it happened.

He smacked her hard in the face. There was silence after that. No girly shrieks or cries anymore. Her eyes closed slowly and a small trickle of blood escaped from her nose. Her body hung lifelessly in the man's arms. "You son of a bi.." I didn't get to finish my sentence. A final knee to the face had something to do with that.

With that I fell into a sleep on the  side of the road and dreamed dreams of Morgan. I dreamt of her shrieks and cries and wished I could hear them again just to know she was safe.
