Ryker POV:

I leaned back in my desk chair, sighing loudly. It had been a long day. Being Alpha of the largest pack in the United States wasn't always easy. Especially when most of them haven't found their mates yet. Wolves are always more brutal and violent when unmated. That's why we have mates to balance us out.

Most of my warriors don't have theirs. And I don't either. It's probably the reason why I've been so restless lately. There was a knock on the door that pulled me from my muses. Sniffing the air, I held back a growl. "Come in Talia."

The door opened as Talia sauntered in, swaying her hips as she came to my desk. "Hello Alpha."
She practically purred her words, most likely supposed to sound seductive, but they grated on my nerves. A lot.

"What do you want, Talia?"
My words were harsh, my voice emotionless. She laughed, then bit her lip.

"It's more like a need, Alpha Marx."
She replied, trailing her fingers down her breasts and paused at the waistband of her jeans. I rolled my eyes.

Don't get me wrong, Talia was beautiful. She had long golden brown hair and sky blue eyes, with full lips and a curvy body.

I had been with her a few times before, but I couldn't do it anymore. Everyone knew she wanted the Luna position, to be my mate. Which will never happen. Talia was too cruel and unforgiving. And that's not what my pack needs.

"And I'm sure you could find some young wolf to fulfill your needs. It's not happening, Talia. We've been over this."

Multiple times in fact. After being together twice, she became more cocky towards my pack, acting like she was in charge. I cut it off immediately and have told her several times since that she'd never be Luna.

Her face contorted into one of rage, then quickly smoothed out into one of false calm. She leaned over the desk, giving me a view down her shirt if I wanted one, which I didn't. She put her lips next to my ear.

"But Ryker....none of the other wolves are as experienced as you.....they don't make me feel the way you do...they can't dominate me like you...they're r pups compared to you." She whispered the words, but they had no effect on me. I snarled, and she jumped back, shocked.

"Talia. There will never be an us again. You were nothing but a quick fuck. You aren't my mate nor my Luna. You have no power over my pack. Get out of my office. We will not have this conversation again." I growled out, using my Alpha tone.

Wordlessly, she turned and left, leaving her sickening scent and a pounding headache. There was another knock on the door before it was opened and Rixon entered without permission.

"Ryker, there's been an unknown pack spotted at the border of here and no mans land. Over fifty members."

I raised an eyebrow at my best friend and Beta. "Do they look like a scouting party?" I asked.

"No sir. That's the thing....they are all women."

My brows shot up at this and I stood up, pacing. "No alpha?"

"Not that we've seen."

Now this was interesting. Why would a group of women be traveling without an Alpha? I pondered this a moment before coming to a decision.

"Round up all the hunters. Let's go pay them a visit."

Rixon grinned.
"Sir yes sir"

I rolled my eyes at him. He knew he didn't have to address me like that. He did it just to infuriate me. I mind linked all my hunters, informing them that we leave in five.
