Soon after Hazel was permitted entry into the dungeon, she noticed Rhiannon was nowhere to be found.

"She's not here," a frail voice in the furthest cell interrupted. "She's home. She's free. She is the answer to this madness. She is the only white witch with the strength to free us. But first, she must darken. Convince her to use her power. She must end the reign of Alexander. "
"Stop this nonsense. There will be no darkening of Rhiannon. There has to be a real reason that Alex is doing this, and I will find it and, and I will end it. Wait... You said Rhiannon is free?"
"Her mother, Eleanor, healed the former Queen, Helen. She was very ill, and the kingdom kept it hidden from everyone. If Eleanor had he power to heal the queen, Rhiannon must have the power to kill the king."
At this, Hazel fled the dungeon and locked herself in her room to think. Here she found Alex sitting in her bed holding a glass of wine.
"Hazel, sit down. You've had a long day, you must rest. We can discuss everything tomorrow. Drink this and lie down. I promise I will tell you all there is to be known tomorrow if you just rest now."
So Hazel reluctantly drank the wine until her vision became blurry. She wanted to call for help or ask Alex what was happening, but the scream never escaped her lips. She rested her head on her pillow and closed her eyes as she wondered what the wine she consumed contained.
"Goodnight, Hazel. This is only to protect you from putting yourself in danger. Knowledge is not always safe," Alexander
