You slowly opened your eyes, and looked at the clock. It was 8:30, and after a mini panic attack about being late for school, you realised that it was a Saturday. Then you remembered, the new neighbours would be here in less than four hours and you were still in bed. You unwillingly dragged yourself out of bed and went downstairs for breakfast. You were the only one home as your parents had gone to take your little sister to ballet, and they wouldn’t be back until at least 11. Once you had finished your toast, you went upstairs and had a shower. You then had the near impossible challenge of deciding what to wear. After an hour of trying on different outfits you settled for jeans and a slightly cropped cream top with a heart on it. You wore a black long-sleeved top under it as you were insecure about your appearance, even though you knew you reasonably slim and you could easily have got away with no top underneath the one with a heart on, but you wanted to feel more comfortable with your appearance. Your curly hair fell just below your shoulders and it took you over 45 minutes to get it to look half decent. You clipped the front of your hair back slightly then began with your make up, satisfied with your hair. You caught site of your clock and realised that the new neighbours would be moving in, in just over an hour.

After applying necessary make-up and spending what seemed like forever, adjusting your appearance in the mirror, you made your way downstairs. It was now half past eleven and your family should have been home. Just as you were thinking about where they could be, the phone rang. ‘Hello?’ you said into the phone

‘hello darling’ your mum began, ‘we are going to be very late home as we have had to take your sister to the doctors because she fell over and banged her head at ballet’ oh great! You thought

‘okay, but the new neighbours will be arriving at 12!’ you said,

‘sorry hun but your going to be on your own, be nice and friendly to them and ask them if they want to come round for dinner tonight! be home in a few hours, Bye!’ she said hurriedly, before ending the call. You were beginning to get quite worried now, what if they didn’t like you! What if they weren’t very nice! You had very little time to worry because you then realised that the house was a mess and Anne and her family would be coming round later. It took you 20 mins to tidy the house, and then you made the final touches to your hair and makeup and turned on the TV.

Before you knew it you heard a car pull into next doors driveway.  A man and a Lady got out the car and started looking around intently. They began moving boxes out of their car so you decided to go out to introduce yourself, and offer your help. You nervously opened your front door and made your way across your driveway. The lady looked up at you, ‘Hi, I’m Anne’ she said, you immediately recognised her but you couldn’t quite remember where from.

‘Hiya!’ you replied ‘I’m Beth! I live next door’ you continued, pointing at your house.

‘Hello, I’m Robin, Anne’s husband!’ said the man, walking over to you.

‘I’m Beth, I live next door’ you repeated ‘Would you like any help moving these boxes?’ you asked

‘that would be lovely thank you’ replied Anne ‘if you could take a few boxes and put them in the front room with all the others then that would be perfect’ she continued as you carried a couple of boxes in and placed them next to the rest.

‘So, are you the only one home?’ questioned Robin

‘umm yes I am at the minuet, my parents have taken my little sister to the doctors after she fell over at ballet’ you said, giggling slightly at how clumsy your sister was.

‘ahh how old is your sister?’ Anne asked

‘Lilly’s four’ you said

‘aww bless’ Anne replied
