it was a bright summer day in los angeles, and jennie had asked her parents to let her down the boardwalk to skate around, as she felt bad that her roller skates hadn't seen daylight since a couple months, and luckily they said yes.
so now, she had on her cyan-colored skates, had her earphones in & blasting some music, and was cruising down the boardwalk, taking in the scenery and busy crowd. people were scattered out all throughout the whole place, some looking through the stuff vendors were selling, while others were simply appreciating the beach and the palm tree scene.
just as she was scrolling through her playlist to find a song she thought would really fit the summer mood, she bumped into someone not so gracefully and landed softly on her butt, her legs sprawled out. she was, suffice to say, a mess.
"oh my god, i'm so sorry, i didn't mean to, here," the person rushed out, bending over to help jennie. she slowly pushed herself off the ground, holding onto the guy. feeling a bit stiff from the fall, it took her a bit of a while to get up and balance back her roller skates.
only when she made sure her roller skates didn't have anything wrong with it- no loose wheels or screws, anything- and she brushed out her clothes to make them less wrinkly, she was finally able to properly look at the person who bumped into her.
the person was a guy, definitely no older than her. his orange hair was styled up and he was in casual shorts and clutching a skateboard in his hand.
"i absolutely didn't mean to bump into you. i was just looking for my friends and-" he explained in a hurry and jennie held out her hands in a "stop" gesture to let him take a breath first.
"it's absolutely fine, i wasn't looking either. i'm jennie," she said to him, putting on a soft sincere smile on her face. the concerned expression on the boy contorted into a smile that mirrored hers.
"i'm joshua. but, really i feel awful, can i buy you a popsicle or something?" he said, clearly wanting to make up for what he did.
jennie honestly now just wanted to say yes mainly to stop him. the boy-joshua- was too kind, a bit too kind.
she let out a small sigh of acceptance and nodded, saying yes. joshua turned around and went up to a vendor selling popsicles. he gestured for jennie to pick whatever flavor, and she ended up with blueberry mint, her go-to.
he paid the man and took the popsicle, which jennie accepted with a bunch of thank yous.
"how can i repay you?" she asked joshua. she didn't want to owe this person who she's probably never gonna meet again ever.
"well there is one thing.." he answered, trailing off at the end, scratching his neck shyly.
"anything!" she replied back, watching her popsicle and hoping it won't melt fast.
"you could give me your number."
