I woke with an abrupt start to my twin sister, Flare, jumping on my bed. "Come on Aqua, let's go!" She cheered as she grabbed me by my forearms and hoisted me up. I stumbled as she dragged me to the main room of the dorm for my three sisters and I.
There, we are greeted with our two older sisters, Arian and Petal, sitting on the couch talking while Petal brushes out Arian's long, dirty brown hair. Flare, being the optimist she is, asked; "Hey, do ya think Mistress will let us go exploring today?" Oh yeah, the mistress of the orphanage we live in!
Petal says that dad died about a month before Flare and I were born and that mom abandoned us in front of the orphanage about a week after we came into this beautiful reality of friendship and purity.
"Only one way to find out, ask her!" I chirp as I jump on top of the couch and over Arian to land on the coffee table.
I kicked Flare's IPhone at her face. She caught it without looking and tossed it from one hand to the other as she laughed. I spun around and carelessly swept my foot behind me, sending Arian's and Petal's phones at them. I kicked my phone upwards, flipping it into my hand as I spun around. Arian and Petal had caught their phones and were giggling.
"Hey, gymnastics comes in handy!" I say as I put my free hand in front of me. Petal hands me the brush and I let my legs give way so I'm sitting down on the table with my legs hanging over the edge and my feet just touch the ground because I'm short for being a thirteen-year-old. I brush out my knotted brown hair when Arian slowly starts singing in her sweet, melodic voice.
"Sing for the mothers along with the fathers, sing for the sisters and the brothers, a song for the priest with his priestess, a song for the knights in all their honor. A song for the prince, another for the princess, one for the king and his wife the queen. Music for the wedding, the bride and the groom, a song for you to sing underneath the moon." She sang a song she wrote that she called A Song For All.
I finish brushing my hair and put the brush to the side as a bell rings. "This is also why I sleep in stretch pants and a hoodie." I say as I stand and stretch, knowing that was the bell for breakfast.
I jump back over the couch as Petal takes Arian's hand and walks to the door. I put my phone in my hoodie pocket as Flare loops her arm around my shoulder and I do the same. We leave our room and head to the staircase where Flare and I glide down the railing with Petal and Arian in tow as other orphans rush out of their rooms and to the dining hall. We walk into the dining hall as the room exploded with chatter and laughter from the other orphans.
We get our breakfasts and sit at a small table in the corner. "Hey Petal, can you tell us the story?" Flare asks as she sips on her juice box. I give Petal puppy eyes, which I know she can't say no to, as I nibbled on my toast. She looks at me and sighs, "whyy do you make it so hard to say nooo? Fine.."
"There was once four girls, all sisters; elemental spirits in human form. When they died, their spirits wandered the realms for a hundred years in search of the perfect new hosts, until they found four young girls. A family of four sisters with spirits so high they could brighten the world.
"The youngest; twins like yin and yang of fire and water, the eldest; the kindest and most trusting person you will ever meet of earthen power, and the final sister; a timid girl who's voice is a melody itself of air element--" she said, but stopped as the headmistress came over to us, holding four camping bags or different colors.
She held them out to us and Flare bounded out of her seat to hug Mistress. The headmistress chuckled and handed me the bags, "I had a feeling you would ask to go exploring today, so I prepared in advance." I took the bags and looked inside one of them. There were food containers, a hoodie, an extra pair of clothes, a camera, notebook and pencil case and a small box with charm bracelet and a small device no larger than a bettle inside.
"Well, let's go!" Flare said very excitedly as I passed one bag to each of my sisters. She practically dragged us outside and to the forest to explore.
I was not expecting that the story Petal told us was real.
