“We haven’t had a song yet,” said Sid.

“I do not want to have to sing a Klingon opera, all those unusual notes,” said Arthur as he pulled a funny face.

“Let’s sing something more like a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta,” suggested Arianne.

“Kind of cheery and upbeat you mean?” asked Arthur.

“Yes.”

“Ok, you start Sid,” encouraged Arthur.

Sid began to sing,

“Arthur and Sid were in a gallery,

They went there after having their tea,

The doors came down, the sirens went off,

Sid the dwarf and Arthur the toff.”

“I say Sid, that is rather good,” exclaimed Arthur.

“Your turn then Arthur,” Sid smiled, “keep it simple, snappy and funny.”

“So a bit like an uneducated turtle in a circus?”

Sid looked a little impressed with Arthur’s quip.

After a bit of thought Arthur began to sing,

“The first is a picture of two fishing droids,

The second is of guards with some adenoids,

The next of my wife as a fegalew,

The last may be a planet that blew.”

Sid grimaced a bit, “Clever,” he said, “but it was a bit of a bodge really.”

“Can I do the chorus?” asked Arianne.

Sid and Arthur looked at each other, “Ooookay?”

“Come on Fawh help me out,” she said.

Fawh bounced up and down like an excited ball.

She sang,

“This is Sid and Arthur’s operetta,

And us joining them has made it betta,” refrained Fawh.

Sid, Arthur and Gerald joined in as they all chorused again,

“This is Sid and Arthur’s operetta,

And us all together has made it better.”

They all started to chuckle.

“Go on then Arianne, you do a verse,” cajoled Arthur.

A second later she sang,

“If we can get the Author to change his mind,

And appeal to his heart then we may find,

He changes the ending and rescues us,

Then we go on our way without much fuss.”

They all paused for a second then sang,

“This is Sid and Arthur’s operetta,

And us joining them has made it betta.”

They sang the chorus again in a higher pitch then fell about laughing.

Now, more than any other time in this sci-fi smackdown, the Author wanted the planet to explode and put an end to their cheery bumptiousness.
